In a local COOP server it is very easy to increase the amount of bots beyond the default menu limitation, by simply modifying the aidefault.ai file in notepad. But I wonder if it is as straightforward for online dedicated COOP servers.
Basically the reason I am interested in this is because currently we only have 16 or 32 player COOP servers, which I assume is due to the default restriction of a max of 64 bots or players. However I expect that if a dedicated server can run a modified aidefault.ai file it could separate the player count from the bot count, allowing it to have upto 64 players as well as bots. Old thread about increasing the amount of bots: http://www.realitymod.com/forum/f308...n-48-bots.html Based on the findings there it seems the ideal balanced setup would be a 48 player server with 48 bots at a ratio of 100. The potential issues I can think of are whether it breaches the server license to do so and also whether it even works the same for dedicated servers. |

I remember playing on a mod a while back (dont remember the name) that had 128 player counts using bots on dedicated. It definitely can be done.

I think that servers have already support for 64 players (32 or more bots + 32 or less players), the number that u see on server list is only for human players, if there were 64 human players then wont be coop mode anymore it will be like on standard servers.

This thread is about separating the player and bot count to have 48 vs 48 matches for example. You can already do it very easily with your own local COOP server by editing 1 file in notepad, I'm just wondering if it is as straight forward to achieve with on line servers. | |

Have you tried it yet?
I feel the biggest issues would be bandwidth, server stress, and how owuld you fill it and how would you need to change the assets to compensate? |

I remeber watching a video of bf2 with like aton of bots but it was horribly laggy but maybe he just had a bad system but i think the engine's just not build to contain that many people (or bots) in one game.
Edit: Found a different video but still shows you can get lots of bots. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErJzdd6yjdA Looks like there's not any lag but the other guys video had everyone spawned in a construction building (about 30 or 40 + bots) so that's problby why it was laggy at first. Oh and can someone please tell me how to add a youtube video in my post cause i've tried the add a youtube video button but it doesn't seem to work. ErJzdd6yjdA without the spaces before the two brackets, only include the portion of the youtube link AFTER the v= <3 Okita

I play with 95 bots normally for every game and I don't get lag. Then again i'm pretty sure I have a monster computer since i'm having 95 bots with all high graphics. Anyway, it all depends on the ability of the server to run that many, and if theres players who can handle that much on their PC.

Its more to do with CPU stress than GPU, so you would need a pretty decent dedi server to run 64x64 battles.

I've tried playing against like 95 bots but no I haven't had 47 people on LAN.
Potentially server CPU stress from 48 bots but that's only 16 more bots than they already run so I doubt it'd make much difference. There would only be 48 players, so considering how smoothly 64 player normal servers operate there shouldn't be any issues handling player bandwidth. The popular 32 player COOP servers are already packed, it wouldn't be a challenge. You wouldn't need to, besides that would be breaching the server license. Most COOP maps already contain more assets than their AAS/INS counterparts, on lower spawn times. |
