Default Community Tournament Format Suggestions

My thoughts, based on only one match so far and some knowledge of the previous one. i've taken some ideas from other organised events on the PR community and testing etc too.

more than one solution - optional or all of them, or none?

Problem:
Those people who signed up to the community match didn't show up in vast numbers.

Solution 1:
Those people who signed up and didn't show up don't get a look-in on any future match unless they posted a reason prior to the match why they didn't show.

Solution 2:
Just like the Public Stress Testing, you sign up to express your interest in the community matches and it becomes a publically accessable event with teams arranged just before practice first come first served. So whoever shows up to practice gets the slots at the main event. Practice occurs on the public version of the map to be adjusted and then switches into restricted mode when the special map is publicised.

Solution 3:
The community maps are prioritised to well known tactical clans and invite only, or the squad leaders are designated from that type of list, testers, devs, etc.

Solution 4:
If numbers are looking shaky, we have a member of the COM. team actively managing the "public become players reserve" activity when the slots get thrown open, and they quickly talk through registrations. Could even make this a team vs. team event as they fight for the best "contractors" "ringers" or "randoms" to join their team for the match while in progress.

just a few thoughts in 5 mins, see what you think.

Elitist alittle?

But rather good points. Although the whole point is that the PR community are supposed to be able to play. Unlike private/dedicated things such as the PRT where constant activity is needed. I thought the COM matches were simply about having members from the community getting together now and then and enjoying a super charged version of PR together.

When ever you make a post the thread becomes awesome NickO, but that is beside the point.

Elitist you may say, but considering we don't have to go for the most elitist of options, and that we got less players turning up than a badly manned public game i think "realist" is a better description.

I agree with a whole that something needs to be done. It's unfair to the rest of the community to have the server only half full on such beautiful maps.

I agree with something similar to your first and fourth point, but the second and third I have issues with. Applying them would simply make this a "one-time mini PRT" IMHO. I wasn't able to make either of the practices, due in part because of the difference in time-zones, yet I managed to show up on both dates. As to the third, I think it could be useful, though reworked a bit. If you could at least combine the second and third point, so that possible SLs MUST make the practices, that would work out. Maybe clans could enter possible reserves (because at this rate they'll definately be able to make every game), but that would be a stretch.

Part of what I like about these matches is that I've played with many different people that I've only met on the forums, and I'd hate that to be ruined by making this more clan reliant. Though on that topic, I'd love some inter-clan scrimms in North America. :-D

I was very disappointed at the turnout in the last match even though I still had fun.

I agree with some of the idea's you had Darkpowder.. but I won't go into a long thing each of them.

I would like to make a suggestion tho.... and this has only taken me 5 minutes as well, so don't tear me a new one...

KEEP IT SIMPLE! I think the long messages and pm this and pm that put people off a bit. Essentially I just wanted to play, not read "Dune" again.

The whole thing last time round seemed too complicated to me with way too much info flying around... so here's my thoughts and some of it is very obviously already in place.

1) Announce the event and map and post dates, times and the rules etc... like a month before hand. Sticky it.
2) With 2 weeks to go, Open the thread and get people to sign up for it on there (in the same thread)
3) A week before the event organise the Teams/Sides and setup the logins for the community forums (So the the MEC can't see the British and vice versa)
4) Once the sides are decided the people that signed up HAVE TO login to the community forums within a day or so to start organising tactics/commanders/squad leaders etc... people who don't sign on that day are counted as "maybe's"...
5) 3 days before the event send everyone a PM just as reminder. If there are no replies within a day. Open it up again for other people to join. Go straight to Step 4 with the new people who have signed during the last day (2 days before) So, 1 day remaining now
6) Carry on as we did before with the set practice times. The MEC should get an hour and the British should get an Hour on the SAME day tho.
7) On the day. Send a final reminder via PM to people confirming attendance and if there are less than 24 replies per side............ we all go storm onto a public server and own them all....... or something!!!!

Anyway, I'm babbling.... I know it's not easy. I just can't believe how many people signed up and didn't show up. What was the point lol.

Cpt-Stee1 in-game.

Glider Pilots do it quietly...
