PR 0.8 Computer Crashes

Hi

I've been playing PR for ages, never really had any problems except the occasional crash to desktop. However since 0.8, my entire computer powers down and crashes after 5 minutes of play. When starting up again, it will occassionly crash again.

Any ideas? My first thought would be overheating, but the various temperatures throughout it never read at more thn 35oC.

Any help would be great, cheers

When asking for help,
please remember to post your:
O/S,
systems specks,
network setup
And a brief history before and after problem started.

Could be your power supply is on the way out or you have a power supply right on the boarder of what you need. PR pushes hardware to the MAX! When your video card is working flat out it's sucking power like a hungry new born on momma's tit. Min these days is 500w to start.

hope ti helps

resolution must be higher than 1024x758 or something near those numbers.

Re: PR 0.8 Computer Crashes

Thanks for the replies. Sorry, my bad I never included the system specs. Am running dual Gforce 8500 GT using SLI, and have 4 2.4Ghz CPUs with 3GB of RAM. This is all on Windows XP.

My resoloution is above that, 1280 x 960 or something similiar I think.

The comment about the power would make sense, but am using a 800W power supply... a good one too, cant rememeber the make but know it was recommended as being a particulary good one.

Any more possibilites?

Thank you

Put AFFINITY 2 in your desktop shortcut to make the game use just one cpu. Here's what mine looks like:

"E:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" start /AFFINITY 2 +modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050

Good luck

1024x768 or above

Hey

Thank you for your suggestion palerider, but I havnt had a chance to try it yet as seem to have randomly run into another problem. Now whenever a start a map, it seems to freeze as soon as I get in. The map appears as soon as I press 'Squad assingment', but I cant move my mouse and the keyboard doesnt work either. Even the Esc key does nothing, I have to Cntl Alt + Dele to quit BF2.

Any ideas? I've reinstalled PR and BF2 multiple time, no help.

Edit: Forgot to mention, no changes have been made to drivers, the computer, settings, whatever. Just of a sudden it seems to have decided it wont let me play at all now.

2 Gforce 8500 GT using SLI ? Does each one have it's own power leg or are you using a splitter from the video card lead that was never intended to feed two cards?

If so you should think about getting a special power supply for SLI rigs with two dedicated video card feeds.

Some other things you could try:

Run battlefield cleaner to flush out video card cache.

Make a new pr user profile

Trash your bf2 cache files
Path:
C:\Users\your user name here\Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache
Anything inside that folder = by by

Don't trust the temperature readings your getting(2 Gforce 8500 GT using SLI = HOT!!!)
Pop the case and put a big fan to blow into it and play a few rounds. If it helps put a extra fan or two blowing on to the video cards. Take the case cover to a work bench and drill new holes if you have to. A bi-metal 3" cup bit and a 1/4" drill bit works fine.

hope it helps

Does it concerns multi CPUs on a mainboard or Duo and Quad type CPUs ?
What do you think it will change ?

I think is sets the game to only use the 2nd core or cpu
