MEMORY ERROR - another temporary solution

On the first day I tried 0.8, I got many, many CTD's while the map was loading and during mapchanges and sometimes it crashed while I was already playing.

Most of the times I got the following error message:

BF2 Memory Error
memory.dll: all alloc attempts failed for size xxxxxxxx

Unfortunately all the possible solutions here in the this forum did not help me (Resolution higher than 800*600, PB update, BF2 reinstallation).

My specs:
Intel Quadcore 6600
4GB DDR2 800mhz
8800 GT 512mb

Vista 32

My ingame settings:
Everything maxed out
1600*1200

And this is how I fixed those problems. I had no single CTD since that time.
But unfortunately you might get kicked by the md5 tool that some servers are running. It happened once on Thors Brigade to me. (kicked for 2 minutes) On other servers I played like 2-3 hours in a row without being kicked, so for me it is worth it until the Devs find a solution.

Now, this is what you got to do:

First backup your BF2.exe !
Download this tool (direct download link): http://ntcore.com/Files/ExplorerSuite.exe
and install it.
Now start the CFF Explorer.exe
Open the BF2.exe with it.
On the left side click on File Header
Now click on the pink Click here in the row Characteristics (lower right corner)
A new window will open
Just checkmark the App can handle > 2gb addressest , then click OK
Finally save the file. (Again: Don't forget to backup the original BF2.exe !)

I heard of this tool before in some other german Battlefield 2 forum.

By the way, this "trick" worked for me in another game called "Gothic 3" as well. I had similar memory errors, leaks or whatever in that game.

I know this is not the final solution, but maybe it will help some desperate people, who like to play 0.8 finally.

So long ...

I just set my textures to medium until devs find a fix...it has worked 100% for me...although it may not look as pretty

I 2nd... haven't crashed once since. Everything else is maxed out and I hardly see a difference.
