connection has been lost problem

Before 0.8 I would be able to stay on a single server for hours without having anyproblems except the rair nights when I just couldnt stay on and I would get a connection problem message then lose the connection a second or two later.

But since I have downloaded and installed 0.8 I havent been able to stay on a server no matter what map or mode for longer than 40 minutes. I have tried restarting my computer, shutting it down for a while, closing every other program running and putting the settings on low but nothing has worked.

This has been happening for 2 days and I really want to get in a full round or two before I go back to school.

Here is my system:
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6300 @ 1.86GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 2046MB RAM
Hard Drive: 315 GB
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce
Sound Card: SigmaTel
Operating System: Windows XP Professional

Thanks in advance for any help.

if nothing worked tell us what you have tried

also have you changed anything lately besides installing pr8?

I did try the trick of pressing escape when you get the problem but I still lose my connection in the end. And other then unistalling some things I havent changed anything on my computer.

Re: connection has been lost problem

are you sure its not your router/pc losing connection to the internet?

there are more suggestions to fix this problem - i dont remember them though
just that it could be your router locking up because of "UDP FLOOD" (DOS-Attack prevention)

Re: connection has been lost problem

I've had this problem before too and found 1 of 2 things that have fixed it:

1. While in game, open the console and type pb_sleep 500. This will delay punkbuster from communication with the internet for 500 seconds instead of the default 20 seconds which can cause frequent connection problems.

2. For some odd reason, giving my firewall (zonealarm) permissions to access my own ip (adding my own ip to the list of trusted ip's under firewall/zones) does the trick.

Hope that helps someone.

Ditto x 1000 to this problem. I always get booted in the middle of the game. Never have before.

Oh, another problem could be your system overheating.. that can also result in a connection lost message in BF2. Check your heat levels during play and make sure they're within normal levels.

Re: connection has been lost problem

How would you check your heat levels?

Could overheating be something with .8?

I was just playing again, after this last post, and the same thing happened. Then after I lost my connection the PR offline menus would cycle really slow, almost locking up, then I had to exit the game.

I tried to come on here and I was not getting a connection to come online. So I assumed it was crappy service. Accept I dont know about the PR menus slowing to a crawl.
