Re: Shouldnt i perform better?

maybe listing your ingame gfx settings would help

its a big difference if you are running 800x600 or 1600x1200 if you get what i mean
(eg with the first resolution it is not normal with the second it would be)

Re: Shouldnt i perform better?

check which settings you use in the nvidia control panel
you can set High Performance, Performance and High Quality try fiddling with those settings

also shutting down visual effects might help too
(maybe create a new windows user for gaming with vista set to performance)

sounds like a laptop - check your energy savings profile - make sure the cpu can reach 100% (default settings for my laptop were 40% )

Being a laptop isn't a valid excuse for the poor performance of PR on his more than capable GPU. The only difference between the laptop and desktop Geforce 8600 series is the clock speeds. The Macbook Pro's Geforce 8600M GT actually comes with DDR3 memory which runs very cool and depending on the notebook model it's clocked the same as the desktop 8600 GT.

Re: Shouldnt i perform better?

true laptops can perform good too
but i was just figuring out a problem that you will not see on desktop machines

so have you checked that energy profile?

Start Menu->Control Panel->Mobile PC->Power Options
"Maximum processor state" -> set it to 100%

or change the power plan to a high performance one "balanced" is not the best for playing games
(i also suggest setting the indexing service to power saving mode so it doesnt start scanning your hd when you are in the middle of a round - or at least it wont scan too agressively)

also: there is a way to get a more up to date nvidia driver than the one manufacturers ship
i have the same chipset in an asus notebook and the standard driver sucked - i recommend 174.12 for i found it very stable and a good performance increas towards the 2 year old shipped driver (Vista Home 32bit)

I'm guessing that it's your VRAM that's the problem.
