Sniper Rifle Problems? Look Here!

To help reduce the number of these threads in the forums and/or the number of people asking in-game, I thought I would post a simple guide to using the sniper rifle.

First of all, come to a standstill, find a relatively still target, and open up the sniper rifle (get in the scoped view).

Then, put your crosshairs over your target and hold 3. You should now hear a breathing sound.

Hold it for about 5-6 seconds for most ranges (the longer the range the longer you need to do this), then while still holding it fire. Your target, if you hit, should instantly drop.

One last thing: To guarantee a kill, aim for the head. Otherwise, medics could potentially revive the target (meaning against insurgent forces, it's highly unlikely you will ever need to do this).

If you have questions or add-ons to this guide, please post them here

On sniper rifles, the "switch fire mode" key (Default 3) can be used to
activate a breathing sound. This simulates breath control and gives you
an audio cue for when your accuracy will be at its maximum. Holding
down the fire button after shooting will allow you to track your shot
before rebolting the rifle

Also, to find out bulletdrop at a close range (like 600ish meters is probably the maximum) fire at an object and see how far down the dust plume is. Remembering where it hit in relation to your crosshairs, put that imaginary dust plume on the target's head. Breathe 10 seconds and fire.

This is currently the only way to incapacitate a fully-healed soldier with the MEC sniper rifle, but none the less you will get a guaranteed kill and terrify the heck out of the enemy (they will wonder A. why is everybody dying and not hitting a wounded stage and B. where is the sniper (if they figure it out) that he/she can constantly pick us off EVEN when we're behind [supposed] cover).

I thought you were supposed to be able to track targets now? After you hold the 3 and wait you were able to track?

You're able to track targets, but very little. As in, you can't pivot on your genitals, but you can kind of move the rifle. Chances are though, a rough movement while 'tracking' will render your shot useless.

anyway, don't be afraid of the sniper rifles. do some trial and error. you're usually able to track pretty well since your target is more often several hundred of meters away than not.
