Pb put out a update
recently that has caused a lot of problems

The recommended fix is:
1. Download pbsvc
2. Start pbsvc installer, you should see options for install, uninstall, test.
3. Run the Uninstaller
4. Restart your computer.
5. Start pbsvc installer again, this time choose install.
6. After pcsvc installs, click the "test" option to check the punk buster install you just did.
5. Make sure it comes back "all green"
6. Create a pbsvc installer shortcut AND pbsvc program shortcut on your desktop.
7. Run pbsvc the program (shortcut on your desktop) add BF2 to the games list, then hit update."

Make sure your firewall has permission for:

PBSETUP.EXE
(search for your location)

PNKBSTRA.EXE
path:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSWOW64\PNKBSTRA.EXE or
C:\WINDOWS\SYSWOW32\PNKBSTRA.EXE for 32 bit O/S
( I think this is the case but not 100% sure. Search for "PNKBSTRA.EXE " to find out where it is.)

PnkBstrB.exe
path:
"C:\Users\"your user name here"\AppData\Roaming\PnkBstrB.exe"

It's important to restart after the uninstall.
Many have posted just reinstalling pbsetup with pbsvc
And updating pb with pbsetup.
Didn't fix their CTD ,"handshaking failed" or "Losing Key Packets" pb issues
In till they restarted before reinstalling

This is likely more of a Vista issue
because Vista was released after bf2
so pb is playing catch up with Vista.
That is why you're asked to first uninstall pb
The pb bf2 installs is an older version than doesn't work
well with Vista. Now It may be the older version works just fine with XP I don't know. I do know I haven't read on PBs web site xp users don't need to upgrade.
But when you think about it It seams likely PB would want to develop one version that works for both.
The key here Is use pbsvc if your having problems.

Keep in mind Summers here and I've read 80% of CTD are caused by overheating video card issues so rule that out
next if CTD persist.
Hope this helps

Exclamation Re: PR BUG. LOADING TO SERVER = CRASH :{ ??

I remember having this bug before I forgot how to fix it! I do remember it was a bug with "mouse 1" for fire I changed it and it lets me in the game. it always crashes during loading if I clicked " Join " because of mouse 1. So I have to shoot with S sometimes it stills does not let me in.... I take awhile to load games also about 60-110 seconeds to join. maybe the servers think I am idle............ But I used to play this mod fine before the last bug and this one!!! >:

captain2008, Did you remember to run the full 1.41 bf2 updater after you reinstalled bf2, but before you installed PR?
If so then maybe:

Your "profile" folder is where all your preferences are kept.
If they get corrupted = CTD or freeze
Its always good to have a clean working backup of you profile folder to fall back on whenever CTD start.
Here how I did it.
go to:
C:\Users\"your name here"\Documents\Battlefield 2
Rename profiles to profiles2

Restart PR
A new profile will be created
log on and retrieve your online profile(scores ect.)
Resetup your keyboard setting the way you like.
Play a few rounds online to check everything works ok
When your satisfied quit out of game and go back to:
C:\Users\"your name here"\Documents\Battlefield 2
Copy the new fresh "profile" folder(Ctrl+C)
Paste the copy right back in (Ctrl+v)
It gets renamed "profile copy"
Rename it "profile master" .
Next time you have troubles
delete profiles
Copy profile master and paste it right back in.
Rename the copy "profile master copy" by removing
"master copy" from the name leaving a fresh clean personalized "profile" folder.

Your good to go!

Have you tried cleaning your cache files as well?
battlefield cleaner works well.

PS keep profiles2 as a reference if you want.
Rename it profiles org. to help you remember.

Hope it helps
Also, If your running Vista, make sure you have 'run as admin' and 'compatibility XP' checked as well.

Running in 'window' mode may let you see an error message and help in finding the reason for your problem.
Open your PR shortcut and change the '1' at the end of the text string inside the 'target' box to '0'.

I suggested the pbsvc program, because you said you haven't played PR in 3 months and a pb update a month or so ago has been causing a lot of problems, however the pb disconnects and crashes happen for the most part after the map loads. Have you done anything to your computer or bf2 game in the last 3 months?
After you remove your old profile and BEFORE you restart the game, rerun the full 1.41 bf2 updater.

You said you reinstalled bf2?

Correct Installation Timeline

1) BF2
-----------------
BF2:SF Expansion |
BF2:EF Expansion |--- If you have expansion packs, this is when they should be installed
BF2:AF Expansion |
----------------
2) Latest Full BF2 Patch (Currently: 1.41)
3) Latest PR Build(Currently: 0.756) is split into two downloads 'core' + 'levels'

Hope this helps

P.S.
When asking for help,
please remember to post your:
O/S,
systems specks,
network setup
And a brief history before and after problem started.
