Unbelivable stuttering
Hi!
First of all i have to say PR is awesome, and ive been playing it for a year now, but now i have a strange issue. I've been playing bf2 successfully for 2 years and pr for 1 year, and now from nowhere i get this really random stuttering.I play on high settings with 2 gig of ram, 2.6 AMD single core processor ATI radeon x1600 on XP.i get fps in range of 40 to 70, depends on situation in game. And i play in low ping servers. So my problem is unbelivable stuttering, and its lag like i have never seen before, let me tell you in the simple way : i press ''w'' forward or any other button, and player doesn't respond, and then it responds in 5 seconds range and i cant control it till it stops again and i can regain control of player (losing control is that long that as i've been pressing button and didn't respond) Like it does it for 5 second delay, and meanwhile you cant control player(5 seconds is just a number, sometimes its more sometimes less). Lag is random, sometimes i play with no problems and then it just happens from nowhere ( no map change or anything that could influence it) Example : lag appears, its ok and then it appears again after 20 seconds (sometimes less sometimes more)then its ok for 1 min (sometimes even an hour or so, but it always comes back later. Lag is sometimes playable but most of the times it just sucks gaming life out of me. This is what i've done so far : reinstalling PR,BF2 reinstalling windows and i think my hardwere is ok because everything else is ok, and it just started happening from nowhere. could it be keyboard ?, is it hardwere or softwere or simply PR ? Thanks for your answers, because i cant enjoy pleasaure that PR gives you. cheers |

Re: Unbelivable stuttering
make sure your swapfile isn't fragmented, also check defrag.
Sometimes a dodgy keyboard buffer can give you lag like that, is it the same with a different keyboard, or USB if you usually have a PS/2 one. Assuming however you only get this lag in BF2, then you need to look elsewhere, which is it? |

Re: Unbelivable stuttering
Run a local server (some big map like Kashan) make sure you wait
for the delayed assets (20min) to spawn, play around see if it starts lagging. If it does you have a "local" (hardware) problem,if not it's a network/server/PB issue .Report back here. |

Really you can lower a few setting to medium without even noticing it if your card is only 256mB.
I have a ATI 1950 512Mb card and I run a few settings on medium myself. Run battlefield cleaner to flush out your video cards cache files. Can't hurt and may help. Setting audio to hardware can take off some of the cpu load as well. 2 gigs of ram with XP should be fine, but from your description it sounds like your cpu is stalling or going to swapfile (virtual ram). Set your virtual ram min and max the same (1.5 = real ram) Read one of the bf2 tweak guides for more ideas. Remember even the super systems out there will get lag from the server once in awhile. I can remember being in the A-10 once on an attack run when Blam! froze up. after 5 seconds I thought for sure I'm dead, then 10, then in what seemed like 25 fricken forever seconds I was right back in my dive, ALIVE!! Everyone on VOIP was going nuts! All said they lagged and expected to disconnect or be dead! The rest of the game we only had a few very short "hic-ups'. PR really pushes the limits of hardware so Anything you can do to lessen the load on your Video card and cpu will help. You just have to find the right balance that works for your setup. Good luck |

Re: Unbelivable stuttering
What about your keyboard?
Does it still respond to turning numlock on and off? |

More "slow"ram > then less "fast" ram 2gb for XP,4gb for Vista is a minimum I'd say plus 512mb for the VGA card both OS I've heard a few people complain about the "Fools Road" ,probably all the trees. My main complain is the "missing" spandrell after the "patch" but that's a different topic.....

Re: Unbelivable stuttering
thanks for all of your help
@Darkpowder : I did defrag 2 days ago and i reinstalled my windows yesterday. Will check with another keyboard and tell you how it went. @SocketMan: I runed battle for quiling today on local with no problems on high settings. i got 50-60 fps when flying jet low and 80-90 when a bit higher ( no visual on trees) @thepalerider : I have graphic card with 512 Mb.And i understand occasional lagging, its ok it happens due to bad connections, but this is definitely a problem. @Deadfast :Sadly my keyboard doesn't have a numlock ( don't ask me how,it just dosn't). i have wireless keyboard Logitech EX110 ( actually pretty bad keyboard, but it servers its meaning) @Sadist_Cain : I could play all of those maps till 1 weeks ago on high settings with no problems, now i lag on simple maps like al kufrah 16. Although i have slow internet connections (100Kb/sec), but why do i have those problems now and didnt appear 3 years ago ? Like i said i have fresh reinstall of the windows from yesterday. But i would like to add one more thing, i started lagging after i downloaded Teamspeak again, i downloaded it on official site. And even thought i tried to play with TS off problem persist. Thanks for all of your suggestions Note:I played today Kashan 64 for an hour with no lag at all, at all.It just confirms how random lag is. cheers |

That could be the problem. What about your mouse? Does it stop to respond as well? If so, is it wireless too? If you don't have Numlock, try Caps Lock.
