Question about bunkers

Today I was squad leading on Kashan Desert. I've only squad lead on this map a few times before but I had no problems till It came down to us defending both north and south bunker. Now many times in the past I've seen people place bunkers inside of north and south bunker (To provide the most protection), but today when I tried to deploy the bunker asset inside of both bunkers it kept telling me to try in a different location. I tried in multiple locations inside the bunker and it didn't work. In the end I had to resort to putting it outside in front of the entrance. Thankfully the action was at a minimum or I'm almost completely sure that bunker would have been down in a moments notice. Is their some trick to it or something cause I've most definitely seen people put them inside.

I've heard you need to be standing on the catwalk above facing the 2nd floor bunker room. When deployed the bunker drops through to the room below.
I haven't done this myself yet tho....
