windows "Critical Stop" noise on exit

anyone else get that noise? when you close bf2 you get the windows sound that is titled 'critical stop', and no error message?

i am also experiencing the PnkBstrB.exe handshaing failure alot lately. But i have got that noise for awhile, even before i got the handshake failure error.

if you don't know what noise im talking about, go to control panel> Sounds and Audio Devices> then Sound tab, in the box at the bottom there clik on the Critical Stop line and hit the Play button to listen to it.

if anyone else has had this and found the reason or fix please tell me.

I get the same critical error sound when I exit PR and I think we're not the only ones. It doesn't bother me nor does it effect my gameplay in anyway so I never bothered with it.

you are correct that it does not seem to effect gameplay but it is leading me to believe something isn't working as it should when i exit bf2. And maybe that over time is causing further problems. Thanks for the reply tho, i just wanted to know if it was only my comp doing it.

I have had that noise for 2+ years...means nothing
But, if you go to taskmanger you will see ~e000051 or something like that, close the process,this will make
IE, or any other program will open faster.

I only worry when PR/BF closes WITHOUT that noise

same noise, since the first day I installed BF2, hasn't done any harm thus far afaik

I had the noise almost all the time.

Exit > *Ding* > Game shut down instantly.


There was a time when I didn't have it and it was p*ssing me off (the game took 10 times longer to shut down ).

ArmedDrunk & Angry, ive read that file is one of EAs CD copyright protection programs, so i let it run.

do you have any problems with PR/vBF2? i haven't so honestly i've never cared. i thought it was due to my x-fi soundcard though.

well recently ive been expierencing the handshake failure or getting d/c from server within 10min or so. but i do not believe that has anything to do with the noise on exit. and it can't be only a issue for those ppl with x-fi cuz i don't got it., and i get the sound.
