Voice doesn't work on PR/BF2
Okay. So I have a Creative Labs X-Fi XtremeMusic which works fine, but I only use it for audio out. Not for my microphone, because the digital out is also the microphone in on the X-Fi, which I need.
I have my mic plugged into the microphone slot on my motherboard. I have Windows XP set so that it uses the motherboard device for the microphone, and audio out uses my X-Fi. It works perfectly in everything. Works fine in TF2 without doing any changes or such. My motherboard uses a Realtek HD Audio driver. Windows is set to use that for microphone, my other games use it fine. But it won't work for BF2 or PR. Does anyone have a solution for this? I do not want to unplug or plug things in. And I've tried a splitter in my X Fi, it doesn't work. So it has to be a microphone solution into my motherboard, while using my X-Fi sound out. Is there some cfg file in the BF2 folder that I can change the default device? Any ideas? I would appreciate it greatly. Thanks. |

Why don't you use the card for both in and out?
Your card Creative Labs X-Fi XtremeMusic Connectivity Is listed as: Line in / Microphone in (shared 1/8" mini jack) Speaker out (4x 1/8" mini jacks) Optical out (TOSLINK)* Optical in (TOSLINK) Intel HD Audio Compatible Front Panel Header (2x5pin) * Digital Out supports stereo SPDIF out and pass through of multichannel DVD sound. The Blue jack is for the microphone for sure. The rest most likely are: #1 Green is back speakers (L&R) #2 Grey Front(L&R) #3 Orange center #4 black sub woofer Also check out this if you still have trouble getting it to work with BF2: Sound Blaster X-Fi & Battlefield2 Solution ID # 10607 Hope it helps PR without voip is like a peanut butter & jelly sandwich with out the jam! |

Re: Voice doesn't work on PR/BF2
does the green symbol come up ingame suggesting you are pressing the right key and your voip is open to transmit? If so, when you first start loading up a server from the server browser screen, at about 6% loaded press ALT-TAB, bring up the basic windows volumes controls and check your mic is unmuted (and don't forget to turn the boost on the mic if necessary)

Re: Voice doesn't work on PR/BF2
I'm using X-Fi Gamer which is almost identical to Music, and both optical out and microphone. Mic is connected to front jack of computer case, which is connected to soundcards secondary input/output header (2x5pin) located at front side of card.
So you might solve your problem this way, but you either need a case with audio front jack or some kind other connection panel to the secondary header. |

Re: Voice doesn't work on PR/BF2
There is NO optical out on my sound card.
There are 4 ports only. Centre/Sub, left/right, surroundleft/right, and microphone/digital I want to configure BF2 to use my onboard mic while outputting on my X-Fi. If you'd like to help, help me do that. Please don't give me irrelevant information. Thanks. The Green icon comes up, but there is no audio. When I try the VOIP settings program for BF2, it does not detect any audio. It is using the wrong microphone in, despite Windows default on the onboard mic. So, is there some way I can force BF2 to use my defaults rather than trying to use everything on my X-Fi? Some cfg file I need to alter? Anything? I cannot use the microphone on my X-Fi. That is not an option. |

Re: Voice doesn't work on PR/BF2
OK
Different problem sort of, but similiar with odd features. I have RealTek as my onboard sound. I have an Audigy Sound Blaster card, cheap one. I had some troubles getting it to work but once it was on the only problem I had was stuttering of the non-VIOP messages during the game. But, mid game, my mic cut out. Reset, changed settings, tried to update both Audigy and realtek drivers, but nothing helps. I heard someone say ingame that it was a bug, is anyone else having problems ? But ....but ...windows is not seeing the mic anymore. The headset/mic has a mid cord volume/ mute control and the volume control has beem touchy for a while, easy to bump it and lose stereo sound. Is it possible that Mute sqwitch is F'ed up ? If so, how to check ? Can I just cut the mid cord control out and resplice the wires ? |

Re: Voice doesn't work on PR/BF2
yeah
I have tripled checked all the BF2 browser settings. Tried most combinatins along with a whole system restart. I think in my case the most obvious cause will prove to the the problem, the mid-cord switch. But it is always good to double check the basics. I forgot to mention that when messing with setting I got the BF browser to recognize my mic, never had that happen before in 4 years and 3 different mics. I was so excited...but then ............... |

You COULD use both microphone and digital out on your X-Fi WITH an external connection panel as I told you in first place, but X-Fi Music seems to be more different I tought and therefore it might not be an 1:1 solution compared to X-Fi Gamer. | ||

Sorry the specks I posted came from what I though was from the Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic on Creatives web site. I must have got it mixed up with the X-Fi™ Xtreme Audio pcie card sorry bout that.
If your card is: X-Fi XtremeMusic I noticed it had: AUX_IN line-level analog input: 4-pin Molex connector on card So I was thinking if your case has audio jacks in the front you could trace them back to the motherboard connection and unplug the 4-pin Molex for the front microphone and plug it in to your X-Fi XtremeMusic cards AUX_IN line-level analog input. Download the motherboard manual for the layout of the front audio jacks if you don't want to trace back the wires. That should work as an option for you. Good luck |
