Completely random CTDs

I've started getting completely random CTDs lately for no apparent reason.

I play PR without any trouble or any sort of issues, mind you.
So I went on T&T Basrah the other day, applied for Insurgent commander, went around with a PKM etc. when all of a sudden I crash to desktop.

I thought 'wtf', ran PR again, rejoined, reapplied, and just as I was shooting Brits I crashed again.

I then again rejoined and played for the entire evening without a single problem.

Today I went playing PR, but decided to rather play something else so I switched to AIX using the Community tab, went on a co-op server, drove around with a Vodnik when I crashed again.

Then I ran AIX again from the desktop shortcut, made a local server and crashed while it was loading the second map (won first one fairly quickly).

The only thing these CTD's have common is that all four occurred more or less after a certain period of time being in-game.

So...help?

Re: Completely random CTDs

It is very possible that your GPU is overheating.

I've had a problem with random CTD's, just like you described, a month ago when evenings got hotter here.
I have passively cooled 9600gt and had no problems with it during winter and spring time, but when summer came i got those random CTD's just after some period of time in game. Finally, after one CTD, I've found my GPU on over 120 degrees Celsius!

My solution was easy, I just turned on one big case fan and everything is OK now, my GPU's working temperature, when I am in game, is now around 65 degrees.

Try to check your fans, dust and to monitor your GPU temperature.

Hope this will help you!

I have the same problem, it mostly happens on Al Basrah. I join and after 15 minutes of playing I CTD. After checking temps, everything is very cool and working properly. I join up again and I CTD again. After about 2-3 CTD's it just stops and I can play for the rest of the round. I know temperature isn't the problem because I have 7 case fans running and a aftermarket heatsink on my E8400, also my 8800gt never goes above 60 degrees while playing PR.

Maybe sounds strange, but that happened to me during testing for the last few days... random CTD's on different maps, and when I then run it in windowed mode, it doesn't crash anymore.

I firmly believe nvidia drivers are the sole cause of CTD's.

I got a hint, that it might be a PunkBuster problem with the latest PB update, yesterday I was on tourney team server that didn't run PB and no one had any issues.

I get random CTDs but not in game.

Like, I disconnect from a server, go to the server browser list, go get a drink, come back, sit down and the moment I sit down without pressing anything, CTD.

Or just started up the game, go to the server browser again, and a couple of mins in looking at the server list, CTD.

Doesn´t happen all the time though.
