Thumbs down Install PR - Can't join any BF2 Servers

Well guess what, after a few months of break, I decided to give PR another chance. I already had 0.708 versions for both core and levels, i installed them, downloaded the patch, installed it. All good so far. I then joined a PR server played a few hours, all good so far too.

Today I turn up my PC, start BF2, try to join a multiplayer server. BAM crashes. It crashes BEFORE loading screen comes up. I can start a singleplayer game and play fine, but the minute i double click on ANY server (single clicking to see server status works) before even going into that loading screen my game crashes.

GOOD JOB!

I removed all the PR stuff from mods folder, I used the clean nice way of add/remove programs, I even inspected the entire BF2 folder for any file modifications prior to yesterday, it's completely clean.

Then I looked for any dump files but there aren't any.

So what is this? I played PR for so long up until a few months back, never had a problem like this. Does this mean you guys are corrupting core BF2 files? The problem can't be on my side, last night I played PR (prior to playing PR I had played BF2 for 6-8 hours or maybe even more), today I did nothing else on my PC before starting BF2.

Consider me an advanced PC user before giving advice, don't take this the wrong way please, i do have a good 8 years of programming and 15 years of hardware experience and I have no idea what the heck is going on.

Thanks!

Hi man. Sorry to hear you're having some problems.

No, PR doesn't change any files from the original BF2. Somehow, something must've gone wrong somewhere. No idea what it is, but it certainly has to do with your install (not blaming you, but your install got a bit messed or so).

If you wish to play vanilla BF2, I think it's best to just reinstall BF2 and patch it up again. It's the easiest way to make sure all is normal again.

GL mate!

Found the problem fellas. Nowhere near the BF2. It was the software I installed for music stuff. Can you believe it? It had installed C++ Redistributable package and I am assuming that had caused it. I removed it and now it works fine.

Odd. But hey, it works now!

Can we expect you on the PR battlegrounds in the future, even though you wanted to play 'nilla?
