VOIP Ingame service
![]() I started to play PR finally tonight after getting Deadfast's fix for vista digital download version of the original bf2, I plugged my mic in and went to use the BF2 voice setup both ingame and out and my mic refused to do anything. I double checked under vista that my mic was responding and set the levels, made sure it wasn't muted etc but no matter what I do the ingame voice programme just won't let me utter a word. I have been a regular user of both Ventrillo and Teamspeak and that seems to always work fine.... Is there something i'm missing here ? I thought it would be cool but on one occasion tonight I was in a squad and we all respawned and while i was typing the SL told me to jump in APC but it took me 5 seconds too long as i was in the middle of using the damn keyboard, and I got kicked cos I was too busy typing a question to his crystal clear voice messages....argh very frustrating. Any ideas to save me a few €$£ from buying a new headset to find it makes no difference ? Cheers folks |

OK do you use on board audio or do you have a 3party audio card.
If you have a card try pulling it in and out a few times to clean the contacts. Sounds simple but check the mikes plugged into the right hole and the headset doesn't have a mute switch on it. USB? Have you been able to RECORD a test file with the mike in Vista audio setup? Did you set the mike boost to "on" in Vista audio setup?Should be on. I had a voip problem after a Vista reinstall where the mike didn't work in game and I couldn't set the mike boost in game ether. I could hear but no one could hear me. I fixed it by going into Vistas audio set up and turning the mike boost on. When I restarted the game I was able to set mike boost on in the game as well. I think you should have your in game audio set to "hardware" and set @ med (to start)with EAX checked. Make sure the "allow voip" is checked and you have a "key" set for the mike. Set mike boost on. Does the mike test work? Set your threshold to 2-9% Set the sound effects around 25-50%. If it's to high you cant hear sh_t when your in a tank. You need to be able to clearly hear voip and what is going on around you. 360 audio situational awareness is key. Hope this helps |

Re: VOIP Ingame service
just a thing I've noticed in game. TURN YOUR MICs UP PEOPLE! With all the in game noise it can be very hard to hear faint mics. Especially for SLs. There is nothing worse than having someone in your squad utter a warning you can't hear, and 4 secs later a tank wipes you all out. just remember to use the BF2 mic setup and be able to hear yourself loud and clear. Staticy mics are worse than faint ones because they cover up all other noise with that loud crackling.

I would like to add to the above:
Keep the buttons pressed long enough. I had a M1a1 gunner who would say stuff like Enemy armour a mo now! |

I have the same problem!
It doesn't work ingame or when I just run the VOIPSetup.exe. Only, I have the problem in normal BF2 (and expansion packs) too and I had it with Windows XP too. It's really annoying cuz' I get the same thing when I get in a squad that wants VOIP.. I get kicked.. Plus.. Using VOIP is much more fun. |

No conflicts with Teamspeak.
Just make sure you have different keys set for each. I have used both with the only problem being it can be confusing with all the chatter going on. Using 1, 2, or 3 to identify vehicles in your squad is helpful as in a driver saying: " 2 has target tank long range @ 255 moving to 300." and gunner: "2 hold, copy target @ 255" Using your squad # at the start of teamspeak is helpful too. "Squad 1 under attack North village by frogfoot heading North!) Remind everyone to keep it short and sweet. Your team/commander needs to know: WHO WHAT WHERE and WHERE IS IT GOING Example call to commander: "Squad 1 has spotted enemy armor. Two tanks and an APC at South village moving North on road." |
