Game worked before but now fliters and crashes
ok here is my story i had BF2 install on my computer worked perfect with everthing on medium settings but after like a month my computer crashed and had to reinstall the system. now i installed bf2 again was playing perfect for about 2 days and then it kinda did a flash of a black screen and i thought it was lag or something and then it did it again and again and finally BF2 crashes to desktop and i thought it was casue i played too long or something then i just didn't play and went on to EA website to register my booster packs and found PR from the EA webstie and installed it, the core and levels and all that. i started to play it and about 1 hour into the game it did that black flashy screen and and crashed and i got mad. it was playable casue i would just go back on PR and play on the server still having my points
(I also have all the lastes drive but i did a update a day after i installed BF2 could that be the problem and if it is should i go back to the CD's version) AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3300+ 2.40 GHz 992MB of ram (3000MB of paging files ) Physical address extension e-GEForce FX 5500(i know its not supported but it works fine and it did before my computer and was running on medium settings) Microsoft Xp Professional version 2002 Service pack 3 |

Re: Game worked before but now fliters and crashes
Could be a overheating problem. Open your case and blast out all the dust with a can of air. Check if all your fans are working. PR is much more demanding than bf2, so be prepared to lower more setting.
Check out some of the "tweak guides" before you lower everything. You could run with the sides off as well. Ram is cheep get another gig. Hope this helps |

Re: Game worked before but now fliters and crashes
yea i just got finished dusting everthing off wasn't much but i only have 2 slots for memory and both are filled with 512Mb cards so i need to find a 2 Gb card. i was checking online and walmart sells them cheaper that bestbuy or curcit city and its the ones i need. the 2GB card sells for like 56$ and the 1BG is like 30-40$ so i will try to get one of them soon casue i am going to vacation to cayman islands for 2 weeks but after that i will maybe upgrade. aslo if the side is open and that doesn't work would it be the video drive casue i upgraded that a day after installation and it started to do that black screen a day after the upgrade

Re: Game worked before but now fliters and crashes
I like to check prices on pricewatch to get an idea what current prices are.
Buy the fastest ram your motherboard can take so you can hopefully reuse it when you upgrade later. A gig of pc3200 ddr 400 Mhz is less than 22 bucks You crashed while playing so your cache files maybe corrupted corrupted cache files can cause "CTD" soooo to fix toss out your cache files: You should have a "cache file folder" inside the "cache" folder. Anything inside the "main" cache folder will be referred to as a cache file folder My current cache file folder is named: D7B71EE2-3100-11CF-8571-082DA1C2CA35}_2965_3 It is located in my documents folder. Their are 689 CFX files inside it. Here is the path: C:\Users\"your user name here"\Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache\{D7B71EE2-3100-11CF-8571-082DA1C2CA35}_2965_3 So when you open your cache folder, trash everything inside(any and all cache file folders). For me that would be the folder: "D7B71EE2-3100-11CF-8571-082DA1C2CA35}_2965_3" You don't have to empty the trash, just restart PR and a new fresh cache file folder with the new CFX files inside is created. PS make sure you clean the top of your video card too, not just the fans. My case has a intake vent across from the pcie slot so I installed another fan to bring cool air in that works well for me. hope this helps |

A gig of ddr 3200 ram(400Mhz) is like 24bucks If your running XP you only need to keep two Processes running before you start your game. I think they are: explorer.ex crss.exe but I could be wrong, it's been awhile since I've run Xp on my game rig. Check out a "XP tweak guide" for more. I remember their was a small program that would shutdown all unnecessary Processes to max out available ram before you start your game and it would put the system back(restart Processes) after you were done playing. It was a great time saver. Anyone remember it? |

Re: Game worked before but now fliters and crashes
Gotta love newegg
I get a lot of my stuff from them and have NEVER been sorry. The reviews alone are priceless. Is 400Mhz the fastest ram your mother board can take? Are you using the 64 bit Microsoft Xp Professional version 2002? If not I don't think your system can use(address)anymore than 4 gigs (really only 3 gigs) any way so it may be better if you just get 2 one gig ddr 400Mhz chips. Key here is "Lifetime Warranty" don't buy without it. I say that because chances are when you upgrade your new motherboard will not be able to use the old ram. |
