Another CTD problem... sorry!

Alright well I'm sure from the looks of it that these threads are getting old, however after attempting to research a fix all day (literally wasted most of my day off trying to get PR to work) I've been very unsuccessful with the various suggestions. Most of the problems others have I found seems to happen while loading/right at the end of a load. My CTD always happens after the game loads completely, I select a kit, take a few steps and magically I'm looking at my wallpaper. If anyone can offer some advice for fixing this, it would be appreciated, thank you very much.

Can i suggest you run pr in windowed mode.. doing this may give you/us a useful error message.

to do this change your PR shortcut from this

"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" +modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +fullscreen 1

to this..

"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" +modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +fullscreen 0

Have you re-installed BF2 & PR from scratch.. with all FULL patches where possible?

Have you downloaded most recent chipset, gfx and audio drivers for your hardware? ( looking quickly i can see your vid drivers are old.)

Have you tried ATI tray tools and tweakguides to elimate possible conflicts?

And if you have a copy of XP.. maybe make it dual boot and use XP for gaming, everything will be a little easier that way on your resources.

My first impression is that your system is running low of memory. If your graphic card really uses 767 megs of your RAM (that's what "shared" mean) then you will have only 1,3 G left for Vista and PR. It is not much :/

If possible, try to disable graphics cards shared memory. Sadly I don't know if its possible or how to do it. But if you success, then you don't need to worry, 512 MB is enough for gaming. Actually, its the optimal amount of display memory from performance perspective.

Start with all settings on low first, like super low.

Delete your cash files in your Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache folder.

Try setting pr to only use 1 cpu. Change your short cut to:

C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" start /AFFINITY 2 +modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +fullscreen 1



And of course your running PR as admin. and have compatibility set for Xp right?

Defrag hard drive
P.S. You should try to keep 20% of your drive clear(free)too.

Instead of using your hard drive for your virtual ram get a 200x speed
usb2 flash drive like this one.

Try 2/3s virtual and the rest ready boost.
It reads and writes as fast as most drives but the seek time is only 1 Ms not 8-12.

Wow, thanks for the tons of replies everyone. You're not going to believe this but after 2 days of trying relentlessly to get it to work and failing, I gave it a break and the next time I went to play, I had absolutely no problems. Max quality settings and all. Very weird... I don't know what made it work unfortunately, nothing I did directly. Now I feel like I've wasted your time so for that I apologize.
