Wearing real thin.

The game keeps crashing my internet connection, always about ten minutes or so into a second map. I wouldn't mind so much if it was just the game that crashes but as it is I have to re-boot my PC to get my conn back.

I've checked in my router's security-log, and there is nothing untoward there (re other threads about the router thinking it's being attacked).

If it was only Vista that was affected like this I'd swallow it, seeing as BF2 isn't meant for Vista, but I've done some pretty hard researching on the net and XP-SP2 users are affected too. Since 2005. That's a pretty piss-poor show from EA and/or the BF2 devs.

If anyone has any ideas on this one, yet another glaring bug in a £30 game, I'd love to hear them. TIA.

It's a brand-new install of Vista, so I figure there's not much need to worry about the registry being furbared yet.

I also always go by the general experience, and as this bug is so widespread I figure it can't be down to individual PC faults. It's something inherent in the game and has been present since 2005, going by the post dates I've found on some forums. That and the CTDs, both OS affected. The way it looks to me is some kind of serious memory leak, though I'm not sure how that could kill a net connection. I've had plenty of games with bugs before, and never experienced one that could kill a net connection with such consistency and regularity, or at all IIRC.

I'll be honest, if PR wasn't so damn good I wouldn't give a rat's about it, I'd shelve the game (because EA don't do refunds, even for shonky code that doesn't meet fitness for use regulations here in the UK) and find another. But it is that damn good and I grit my teeth every time BF crashes and go through the cycle. Prefer not to if at all possible of course, because I've already come close to putting my mouse through the wall a couple of times (I have issues ).
