Re: Troubleshooting guide: Unable to start PR

*SOMETHING* stands for whatever folders you have above Battlefield 2's installation folder.

The most common example would be C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2

Turn 360 degrees and walk away is what you should do tbh.

this happens when the specified shortcut parameter for mod folder for "+modpath" (usually "+modpath mods/pr") does not exists
so you probably manipulated the shortcut to not work correctly anymore

maybe you also installed into a wrong directory
eg. when the installer asks for the installation path it wants to know the bf2 path "something\Battlefield 2"
NOT the mod's path ("something\Battlefield 2\mods\pr"), which would result in a new folder structure: "something\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\mods\pr"

btw: the shortcut's target path should also be the BF2 path not the mod's path

Got a PROBLEM? Check this: Project Reality Detailed Installation Guide

Thanks for your help! The PR.exe seems to be in the wrong directory...I'm gonna check it tomorrow.

Edit:Nope it didn't fix it...still only starts vanilla BF2.My "start in" line is "C:\Programme\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2".My "target" line is "C:\Programme\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\pr.exe" +modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +fullscreen 1.Both the PR.exe and the PR.exe (text) are now in the Battlefield 2 folder.

Arrow Re: Troubleshooting guide: Unable to start PR

PR the application needs to be in the pr mod folder.
pr.exe the text file gos in the bf2 folder.
Review this:

Windows Vista path to pr.exe is: C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr
You should see PR inside that folder, but you may not see the extension(.exe)
Look to the left of PR and you will see a column called type.
PR should show as an application.

There is another file named pr.exe it needs to be in the main bf2 install folder with the BF2 application.
Again Vista doesn't display extensions in the name it displays in the "type" column what the file is.
The name of the file is PR.exe but the type is "text".

If you dont have the PR application in the PR folder reinstall Project Reality 0.756 to the default folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2
If you installed BF2 to "C" drive like most you don't have to do anything
The installer will install into the "mods" folder automatically.
If you moved BF2 to another place you must find the Battlefield 2 folder for the installer. It'll do the rest.

Install in this order:

Reinstall 1.41 patch
Run "core" installer
Run "Levels" installer

Restart from the shortcut it should work now or

If your getting the bf2.exe not found, that means your pr.exe(text file)isn't in the same folder as the bf2 application.
PR.exe (text)needs to be in the main bf2 install folder with the BF2 application.
Basically pr.exe is a text file that tells the bf2 application to use the custom pr shaders instead of the default ones.

To fix it just search for pr.exe on your hard drive.
When you find it:
Make a temp copy of it( Ctrl+C)
Next paste the copy into the main Battlefield 2 folder.(Ctrl+V)
Next check your shortcut
Are the links correct?

Example with Vista:
Target:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" start
/AFFINITY 2 +modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +fullscreen 1

Start in:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\"

XP users can lose the (x86)
Users with single cpu can lose the AFFINITY 2

That should fix it.

Let us know if you need more help
Good luck

Project Reality 0.756 installs a desktop short cut
to start the game.Use it.

Hope that helps make it clearer.

Re: Troubleshooting guide: Unable to start PR

Ummm . . .

I'm feeling a bit thick at the moment, but have followed this advice to the letter and am still getting the full screen message telling me to run PR via pr.exe and not bf2.exe . . . press alt+F4 to change shortcuts tec etc . . .

I use the shortcut and run as administrator - then prompts to allow pr.exe and then bf2.exe to run . . . I'm running vista and downloaded BF2 from EA + expansions and 1.41 patch (in that order) before installing pr 0.8 - I've already reinstalled pr0.8 once to no effect - everything is in the default folders I think . . .

shortcut target is (as advised):
"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" start

and start in is:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2"

but still no dice . . . I'm new to pr and have heard very good things, but still can't join in unless someone has any bright ideas . . . ?

Hey,
unfortunately the Downloader version doesn't work with the standard launching method.

You gonna have to use the Batch scripts.

Turn 360 degrees and walk away is what you should do tbh.
