Severe Graphics (Hardware) Problem

Eh..picture describes the problem. Artifact things all over. Earlier there was big glowing bars going down the screen about an inch thick. I'm pretty sure I didn't change anything or install anything when it happened. One day I turned the computer on and this is the way it was. I attempted installing new drivers but it didn't help. No idea what the problem is..I'm assuming its hardware at this point..?

Anyway I have an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb

It actually looked like 20x worse before I took the screen. What you see starts even on the on the first loading screen when I start up the computer. Then its like that on the log-in screen, and of course any game.

Thanks in advance.

It looks like your card may be on its last legs did you try making sure its in all the way I had something like that happen to my SLI GeForce 9800 and forgot to add the little thing that connects them.

Re: Severe Graphics (Hardware) Problem

i had a 9800XT, and this tended to happen when my card overheated, so maybe check your fans.

(do you do overclocking?)

Re: Severe Graphics (Hardware) Problem

I made sure it was connected and I cleaned the whole thing out with a can of compressed air. In the process I removed it and replaced it - making sure that it was connected properly.

I don't do any overclocking and even if the comp is off for hours (overnight), it will be bad again when I turn it on in the morning. The card is pretty old and is a hand-me-down from a retired PR DEV :P
