Question True Widescreen for BF2/PR

Hey

I've just restarted playing PR, however since I last played I now have a 19" 1440x900 monitor. I've done my own searching about this subject and have only got very confused with different people saying different things. If a friendly fellow player whom plays on a 1440x900 wide-screen monitor could give me some clear steps about how they have got their BF2 game working in true wide-screen I would be be very grateful.

What I have tried was to get my nVidia drivers to not scale the output so I would be playing under a normal 4:3 resolution I.e just have the appropriate black banding around the edges. However not one of the options worked how I was expecting. I have forced BF2 to play in 1440x900 by adding the short cut parameters however I'm sure things are still not looking right has this got something to do with the FOV? I haven't found a precise way of rectify this.

Thanks in advance

Hey there,
did you try Widescreen fixer?

Turn 360 degrees and walk away is what you should do tbh.

First thing you need to do is edit your PR shortcut.

Yours probaly looks like this:

"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" +modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +fullscreen 1"

Add +widescreen 1 +szx 1440 +szy 900 to the end of that so it looks like this:

"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" +modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1440 +szy 900

Now you can run PR in widescreen but the HUD will say the same.

Next thing you probaly want to do is install Widescreen fixer.

I recommended v1.32
http://imk.cx/pc/widescreenfixer/Wid...ixer_v1.32.zip

Ones ingame press ";" and it will be activated.

I wouldn't run Widescreenfixer. It has actually been added to the punkbuster list of cheats and you might be added to the Punkbuster global ban list for using it!

The author says that the 1.32 is ok to use now, but all it takes is one server to recognize it as a cheat, and you're out.

How many people have you seen getting banned for it that you start such serious accusations?

I'm gonna tell you have many I know of. Zero.

Please, next time you post something like this, back it up with evidence maybe?

PsB will not endorse the use of this or any other non sanctioned 3rd party program. At no time should game code in memory or game files ever be changed by a third party program or hack. No user (player) should ever use this or other programs/hacks that modify the game in such a manner. There is a strong risk that this program/hack will get the user banned and usually without any recourse to appeal. PsB will not release any ban for the use of this hack as of Todays date (Nov 08/07), plus a small grace period, to allow users to cease using this hack. If they use the newer release they understand the risk and the no recourse from a banned guid resulting from it. PsB will not release ban violations from the MBL that we recieved before Nov 3rd/07. All other ban violations before this date will not recieve a favourable appeal ( will remain on the MBL).
End of statement

In addition to Deadshots post and apology to him but I must add. The author of this program/hack was and remains very much aware of the risk of a ban his hack might cause his users of his hack. He issued a warning with his release about the risk being very real regarding recieving a ban violation. He did make an effort not to cause bans but as was discovered it is impossible to prevent this from happening to anything not sanctioned by EA and EB. There is no chance he will ever recieve this sanctioning. People with widescreens will just have to ask EA to add official support to BF2 no matter how they feel hard done by.

As most people know in the gaming communities. In this day and age of online cheating. There is no way third party hacks can ever be sanctioned. The risk when modifying and game in memory or it's files is very high that at some point it will end with a ban violation. There is no practical way to manage unsanctioned changes to the game when it's beyond the usual mod formats available to the moding community.
And it's not baloney, people HAVE been banned for this.

Re: True Widescreen for BF2/PR

Well I play on a widescreen monitor that runs natively at 1440x900. I don't use the widescreen fixer (laziness rather than fear) and I don't really notice the difference. The FOV does make a bit of a difference but if you look at comparison shots there isn't much difference realistically.

I didn't even have to adjust to a stretched image or anything. It looks fine and really you wouldn't know there was anything wrong if people didn't talk about it.

It's called VIOLATION (GAMEHACK) #89105 in the PB database.

And it's not baloney, people HAVE been been for this. If they changed it, it's news to me.
