Why can I only run Project Reality on Low?
Today I tried to play Project Reality on the Highest settings but the gameplay is very sluggish and also very laggy. However, when I played PR on LAN by myself to test the settings, the gameplay is a lot smoother.
I have a very good system that is capable of playing vanilla BF2 and other games on High efficiently, but when I tried it with PR multiplayer, its the opposite. Here's my specs: CPU -> Intel Core 2 Quad 6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz Memory -> G.Skill HZ 2 GBs Video Card -> ATi Sapphire x1950 PRO Operating System -> Mircrosoft Windows Vista Ultimate x64 Bits |

you should be able to run 1440x900 maximum graphics if using XP PRO. But you just had to get a Vista OS on a machine you were going to game on! If you can't resolve it, you can get copies of XP Home for about £55 if you look around, less outside the UK. You might want to "upgrade" and face the fact that the cost isn't 'that' bad to get a gaming machine running right.

Wouldn't that be downgrading? Also, Vista does not affect any other games for PC Performances at all, except for this mod. For some reason, its like this mod is Anti-Vista.

Not for the first 6 years after Microsoft releases an OS

Vista is WAY behind on compatibility when compared with XP. I don't know how many game boards I browse where there is a permanent 'how to use this game in Vista' stickie. I'm just gonna skip Vista since apparently M$ is already making the next one. Vista is just there as a stop gap to keep the customer base happy while Linux, Mac, and everyone else do new exiting things.

Actually, when people say that when something isn't compatible with Vista, they meant that it doesn't work with at all. However, Vista is compatible with Project Reality but it run very sluggish with Full settings on.

PR is a very demanding game, and if your using 64 bit Vista, maybe you should upgrade to at least 4GB ram. Or even better, downgrade to XP! Vista sucks for gaming, apart from DX10..

Again with the whiny bitching. Vista is fine for gaming, so stop wasting forum space with promises to stick with XP till 2011, when the next Windows comes out. I really hope you do that, or better yet, go back to 98. It uses way less resources so you can post even more whining in the forum faster.
I am on Vista64, and running a solid 100FPS (max you can have) with the same CPU as you, the 6600. PR does use more resources that plain BF2, because of the larger maps and some other things. I think that you bottle neck is in 2 gigs of memory or the grf. card. I played for the first 2 weeks after I built my computer with only 2 gigs, and then decided to try 4, and noticed a big jump in everything from boot time to PR. And 2 gigs of really good RAM right now is only $35-40. As for your grf. card, that is getting pretty dated now, and considering how good the new 9600GT is turning out to be, might want to consider upgrading. It can be found for under $150 for the stock card, or a little more for an overclocked. A guy I was talking to the other day just upgraded his 7900GT to a 6900GT, and went from playing everything on low in ARMA to pretty much all highs. Quote: "Well let me tell you what happened when I fired up ArmA. We're talking DOUBLE framerates, fellas. Going from 20-30fps on Low/Normal to 50-60fps on High everything. It's absolutely unreal. Thank-you Bamboo and Iceman for recommending that card." And ARMA is a HUGE resource hog way beyond PR. I regularly drop down into the upper 20s FPS when recording an action scene with FRAPS. Here is a quick vid I did last week. Too bad Stage6 video closed up, cause the video is widescreen and this site smashed it so it looks funny. Tactical Gamer Quick ARMA Clips on Vimeo The flash video actually looks more jerky than the original recording even. So before you waste your money on XP DOWNGRADE, consider spending it on something that will actually help. |
