Exclamation PR 0.75 will NOT work on Windows Vista x64

Hello there, my fellow PR addicts.

I have a puzzle for you: how do you get PR 0.75 to work on Vista x64?

I installed the patch and levels correctly, and when I doubleclick on the PR shortcut on my desktop an error message pops up with the title "Failed". The details are - "You must run this executable as an Administrator due to a bug in Windows. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q303437/: Access denied"

Obviously, I tried running it as admin using both possible methods, to no avail.

Since the above link did not really help me at all (it seems completely unrelated), I proceeded to deinstall PR completely, delete the PR folder unders "mods" and delete my BF2 folder in My Files. After that I reinstalled PR 0.75 using the complete PR The result: same as above. Please help me play my beloved PR!

I am an experienced PC user and gamer so please refrain from answering by advising me to "reinstall PR/Windows", "get rid of Vista/get a legal copy, noob" and the like. My Vista x64 is a legal copy and has SP1 installed, i.e. is completely up to date.

FYI, the shortcut details are:

Target: '.......\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" +modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +fullscreen 1'

Start in: '.....\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2'

I would very much appreciate a detailed, sensible answer. I just want to get back to the lush forests of Mestia and the soft hills of Fools Road, so please help a brother out.

Thanks in advance!

I'm using Windows Vista 64 SP1 as a well; no problems at all. Check to see if the directory is:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" +modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +fullscreen 1

Me and majority of CROcodiles squad are using up to date V64 (installed without SP1, used available pre-SP1 patches such as Autopatcher July2007, few manually applied fixes and patches, and internet update) with no problems at all.

The thing is that we have turned off some of annoying services such as UAC, Application Experience, Superfetch, Windows Search, and Windows defender, and playing PR ever since.

Please note that I'm not running it as admin or in compatibility mode at all.

I have Windows Vista x64 also. When you installed the game and levels, did you choose custom instalation or FULL (I think you need to choose Full)

Did you actually think before you posted your title.
Think about how many computer "noobs" as you put it will see that title and think it true without actually clicking on the link.

It DOES work with 64 just as well as it did with XP 32.
As they said above, you didn't mention if you had put the check mark in the run in compatibility mode for XP service pack 2.

Yes, of course I've tried XP SP2 compatibility mode.

@Trunkz Jr: I did not change the default install mode, which was custom. Will try FULL as you suggested.

Help!

Did anyone ever find an answer to this problem!?

I've just rebuilt my machine, and I can't get PR back!

I started out by doing a full install of BF2, the 1.41 patch, the PR 0.8 (core and levels), and used "full installation".

I have the same error as described above...

Heeeelllp!!!

OK I have to ask
How many users accounts are on it?
And I know this is a stupid question but your using a account with admin rights, right?
Check your BF2 app
Right click it and make sure the run as admin and XP SP2 compatibility mode is checked as well.

Long shot.....

I'm running PR on
Vista 64 home prem with 2 gigs of ram just fine

User accounts: 2 (both admin accounts).

Yes, I have admin priveleges.

Yes, I've tried running BF2, PR, and the shortcut with explicit run-as-admin, and in compatability mode... but no joy.

I have found an annoying, but possible temporary workaround... I can run BF2, the go to Community, Custom Games, and activate PR. This will at least let me play, but is a very long winded way of getting in.
