warbot is sorta right...

This is what worked for me: I copied pr.exe from the "*\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\" folder to the root "*\Battlefield 2\" folder. Then, I point the shortcut to the pr.exe in the root folder. So far, so good.

I've tried every suggestion in this thread - nothing works for me. I still get the same screen telling me to use PR.EXE instead of BF2.EXE.

Its probably because I'm using the version of BF2 downloaded from EA online - the BF2.EXE supplied is not the same as the retail version and its been causing me a few problems, especially with Punk Buster. I eventually got them to refund my payment but I've not got around to buying the retail version yet.

Steps that I carried out to get it working:

1) Install the PR 0.75 Patch
2) Copied the PR.exe file located in the /mod/PR folder
3) Pasted the PR.exe file into the main /EAGames/Battlefield 2 directory
4) Ran PR.exe as an administrator
5) Enjoyed the game

Reasons for doing this: I moved it in the main BF2 directory as when I went to run PR.exe, it said it couldn't find BF2.exe to fully execute, so I moved it into the main BF2 directory were it could find it...and it worked, so job done

Well, I'm having the same CTD problem. Usually I can connect to server, play for 30 secs and then CTD. Using Vista Home Premium 32-bit, running as administrator and deleted patch and re-installed whole thing. Punkbuster has been also manually updated. Funny thing is that yesterday game worked well and i had only patched the game from 0.7 to 0.75.

Today any server I try to connect --> 30 sec play and CTD. Vista FTW

Still can't get it running off the icon. Tried all of these.

Is the directory its supposed to be installed to C://Program Files/EAGAMES/Battlefield 2 ? Thats where its putting it by default.

FIXED: The digital purchase of BF2 did it. Once I reinstalled my original Retail copy It worked like a charm!
