How many Vista users here?

I just got a new gaming rig and of course it came with Vista. And it took me about 2 weeks to figure out all the things I needed to do to get BF2 running in it.

Like it or not, Vista is the future of PC's (and I hate it). My undertanding is that as of Feb this year you can no longer buy a PC with XP preinstalled, and Feb next year XP will not be supported at all anymore. Further more, there are already products out there that cannot be used with any OS less than Vista.

I'm just wondering how many others are out there using Vista or are you using XP with a partitioned HD or perhaps you just tossed the preinstalled Vista and reformatted with XP?

If there are enough of us, is it worth asking for a dedicated Vista support forum here at PRM?

Half.. Vista Ultimate 32bit for work/school/internet.
Half.. XP-Pro 32bit just for Bf2, old Mapsend software for a Magellan GPS, cakewalk sound recording and Videowave for video editing.
No anti-virus on XP partition.
It works fine.

Ridiculous poll choices

There's no need to have Vista on a new PC. Just don't buy a pre-built.

Besides, you forgot Linux

Turn 360 degrees and walk away is what you should do tbh.

Not really an opion for a lot of people, I could have built my own, but for the money I found it was not worth it to get that extra 5fps out of a game. Beside, if you go laptop your choices are really narrow.

I have Vista 32 bit. I don't really mind all that much, you just have to fiddle with it for a bit.

See ive been on XP for years n then i went n fried my motherboard one day n was without a pc for a while. Hell i even used a mac for 2months till i could afford to buy a new pc...i know its terrible but wat could i do.
I recently bought a new pc n have upgraded it with a nice nvidia card n some sound cards too. Its on vista os n it was my first time using it, even now im still fiddling with it to work out all the odds and ends to it.
It is a good package, but it just makes it alot harder to do what you want in terms of changing things like you could do so easily with XP.
I get the feeling we are all goin to hav to resort to it at some stage as im sure microsoft will want us to...

I decided to embrace the future and recently installed Vista 64-bit. Luckily BF2 worked for me without problems, I don't see any notable performance difference too, and there are drivers for all my stuff, including the Copperhead :]. I keep a partition with XP just in case (like when recently I had to use the "testdisk" utility to fix something on another disk).

Few days ago I've changed my rig and installed Vista 64 Ultimate.

Thanks to musp3r and his installation guide (http://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-...ion-steps.html), I'm amazed with my new computer performance, as well as with Vista's features and capabilities.

Vista is, what I can see so far, one great OS for advanced users (who likes to setup every single option of his computer work in some intelligent and very detailed way) and "not so" advanced users which likes to see their computer being colorful and very simple to use.

I don't have any performance problems at all, my rig is simply flying

System specs:

Intel core 2 Quad Q6600 OC-ed to 2,7 GHz
2 x 2 Gb DDR2 800 MHz OC-ed to 900 MHz
MB Gigabyte P35C-DS3P
nVidia 7600 GT (have to wait few more days for 9600GT)

Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. (Clint Eastwood)

Vista has a lot of teething problems, but you are right that, once set up, it's pretty good.

We'll see what happens when SP1 comes.
