Angry Crash when map change

Not like this needs much explaining. My specs are fine. No problems with vanilla BF2. I AM RUNNING VISTA. My PR just crashes when the map gets at about 1/10 load. It just used to crash at 100%. Most of the graphics are on high. Except for some I tuned down to medium to reduce lag issues. Help? Or I may have to say goodbye to PR

*note2* VISTA USERS: If you have recently upgraded to Vista, for some reason certain maps can lag\delay so badly that it cannot be played. It is not the the server, the problem is with the operating system. The solution is to run BF2 and PR in Windows XP SP2 Compatibility Mode and as Administrator.

*note3* VISTA USERS: Microsoft have recently released a standalone hotfix that seems to fix crashes for games, and PR. As this is not included in Microsoft's usual patch release yet, the info is below to be manually added by the user until it's incorporated automatically in Vista. You can read about it on Microsft's KnowledgeBase Article

I think the general idea is that a patch will stop things behaving abnormally (like Vista itself).

Yeah but sometimes patches screw stuff up ( like the v0.7 patch ).

Well,PR v0.7 was a full release, rushed by popular demand, which was always going to have the odd bug in it.Microsoft Vista is a bug in itself it appears.

Doing a full uninstall,a clean out,a defrag, and then a full reinstall sometimes helps but, from what I hear, you'll have to patch Vista as well.

I can't tell you any more than that but you could have a read of this post.

Yeah, try to use that ^^ guide, as it is crucial to update/patch vista with all available patches and hotfixes.

And please, try to turn off Windows Defender first, then reboot and try to play with other services still on. If turning off Windows Defender alone isn't sufficient, proceed to disable other services mentioned in guide linked above.

Report back please.
