core 2 quad or core 2 duo extreme

i have another processor question, is the core 2 duo extreme x6800 better than the core 2 quad q6700? the extreme is ofcourse way more expensive but is it a big performance increase?

The newer something is, the more you will pay for smaller performance increases. It is better, but I don't think it matters enough that you're going to want to shell out more.

Now that's all without even bothering to look, which is a bit ridiculous, but that's my computer philosophy in a nutshell.

Aside from the entire dual core vs quad core deal...?

BF2 is not a multithreaded game, so the more Ghz you have, the faster it will run. An Extreme is a bit overkill, buy a cheaper one and OC it.

I don't think you could get a Desktop running SLI to run Crysis on ultra high...

Go with the quad if that if your goal.

well the sager np9262 uses true desktop processors and not the crap notebook ones, im sure it could get close, it also (at the end of February) has an option for SLI enabled 8800 GTX's totaling out 1 gig of memory. it also has 4 gigs of ram. this is a very high performance notebook that rivals a lot of the higher end desktops.

another thing about crysis and the extreme. whenever you load crysis and you have the company logos playing when you start up, the intel video has the extreme processor logo in it. i really need to know which one will work best, the extreme has a speed of 2.93 ghz and the next cpu down the list is the quad core with 2.66 ghz speed. the extreme costing $975 and the quad core $375 has to mean something. i keep hearing that the x6800 is the best intel cpu one can get.

i suggest reading some test reports then

like this one: Intel's Core 2 Duo and Extreme processors - The Tech Report - Page 4

looks like the x6800 is the best of the core2s but they didn't say a word about quads so you might want to find a better article - but as for bf2 since its no multithreaded game on page 6 you can see that it doesn't really matter which cpu

I have a quad, and bought it mainly looking forward to Crysis.
Truth is, even when I am playing around on ultra, (just for screenshots, can't actually play at that) my q6600 isn't even running but at like 75%. Crysis is not a CPU intensive game, it is more GPU intensive.
I also have 4 gigs of RAM, and and even it is not coming close to getting fully used, so the only thing limiting me is my 8800GTS 640mb.
Point is, you should save your money and get the cheaper quad CPU, and spend the money on that new 8800GTX mobile SLI edition.
Even better would be if you can wait till march or april and get the new Intel quads that are about to be released, as they are looking much better.
