Duo or quad core

Im trying to decide whether or not to get a quad core or a core duo. the quad core has a clock speed of 2.4 ghz and the core duo has 2.6 and is $50 more. which one is actually better?

I'd go for the quad core, I have the one you mention and I'm happy with it.

Do you have a super handsome mate? (hugs and kisses KP)

Get a Q6600 G0 Stepping Quad, it can easily be overclocked to 2.6 plus Quads are more 'future proof' than dual cores.

^^ What Bowskill says: Q6600 G0 Stepping (Kentsfield) is an absolute cracker.

Just got mine and I'm seriously impressed with the performance boost.

Currently set @ 333 X 9 (so sitting at just below 3000 MHz) and running beautifully.

Handles PR at max settings with ease: the game looks lovely now

I do not see me needing to upgrade it for at least 2 years (I had my P4 Prescott for 2 years and that was a lovely chip).

What mobo you got or planning on getting?

What's French for "déjà vu"?

Phil Collins doesn't cut it around here

Its just like when i got me dualcore: De facto, it didnt improve the framerate and was more expensive than better, cheaper singlecores.
BUT NOW, i couldnt live without 1, coz u can multitask and games have caught on with optimising for dualcores.
So, if u can afford it, get the quadcore. Its going to save ur ass in the future

I have the q6600 quad and am very happy.
But if you wait a couple of more weeks the replacement for the q6600 is about to be released. It has been previewed on some tech sights and it is crazy good.
And it is the same price.
