BF2/PR Problems on Laptop

I just got a new laptop and I am having issues getting BF2 and PR to work. I have vista,2ghzcpu, 512mb Nivdia 8600, 4gb ram. So I dont think its a hardware issue. I have a 17inch screen which may be causing the problem. When I hook my laptop on to my desktop monitor the game will run fine. Even when I unplug the monitor cable it will continue to run fine on the laptop. I just can start it from the laptop. When ever I try to I get the BF2 screen and the the screen goes black, like normal. Then flickers and CTDs. Dont know what to do.

Right click on your shortcut for PR, and select "Properties".

In "Target:" box you have to add this widescreen and resolution ending, to look like this:

...\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050


, using your resolution rates.

It didn't work, I now just have a different type of flickery CTD. Might have fixed one problem and just discovered another.....

Can you tell me what resolution and refresh rate you are using on that laptop.

And please can you copy, and paste here, your target in PR shortcut.

Go into battlefield2 folder in My Documents, open profiles.

First open Default folder, and then open video.con file using wordpad and change resolution line into:

VideoSettings.setResolution 1280x960@60Hz

Don't ask me why 1280x960, I don't know, I am also using 1680x1050, but when you enter 1680x1050 it will still CTD.

Save changes and exit, now when you start PR, you will be able to start PR, but only to logon screen (where your accounts are listed), but you will CTD when you try to enter the game with your account. See on which place is account you are using (is it first, second or third etc., on that account list).

If it is (for example) second on the list, than you have to open folder named 0002, in that My Docs/.../profiles folder.
Change also video.con file, just like you changed the Default one.

I believe that we are closing to the limits of my knowledge on that, sorry.

I can only say two thing more:

try to change only "default" video.con until it starts working (maybe to try with 59Hz etc.)
try to use search option, I know there are a lot of things written here about widescreen problems solving.

What are you graphics driver version? Are those up to date ?

I'm firing blanks now:
- try to disable external video output in nvidia controls (only one display)
- try to mingle with nvidia options for 3d graphics (restore defaults or set every setting to application controlled or high performance setting)
- try set ingame graphics to lowest and then mingle with shortcut resolutions in this format:

X:\BF2\BF2.exe +modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050 +fullscreen 1

try some of lower resolutions 4:3 or 16:9,10 aspects, maybe one lower will work for you.
My PC too CTD if I use 1440x900 = 16:10 for example.

* 640x480 = 4:3
* 720x480 = 15:10
* 720x576 = 5:4
* 800x600 = 4:3
* 848x480 = 16:9
* 960x600 = 16:10
* 1024x768 = 4:3
* 1152x864 = 4:3
* 1280x720 = 16:9

* 1280x1024 = 5:4
* 1360x768 = 16:9
* 1440x900 = 16:10
* 1680x1050 = 16:10

* 1920x1200 = 16:10

I saw makee wrote : "...\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050", now as you may notice in my setting there's no +widescreen 1 option, and it's working for me without it, try to eliminete that, although I think this option is diregarded from the game...
