VoIP causing connection Issues
I have a plantronics Audio 650 USB headset. It works great over TS, and when I can connect to a server with VoIP on it works great. Unfortunately, much of the time when I have VoIP activated (in PR, not TS), after connecting to a server and reaching the kit selection screen, I get the "There is a problem with your connection" message, and I am disconnected in 10-15 seconds. Hitting Esc has not solved this for me, and my google-fu as well as searches on these forums have turned up nothing.
So far the remedies I have tried: Connecting to the rear audio i/o ports instead of using the USB plug - No dice Reinstalling BF2 and PR - also no dice New drivers for my Realtec ALC888 integrated audio- again, no dice Disabling BF2 VoIP - this works, but is an unacceptable solution. I have found no correlation between servers, maps, or background programs (such as fraps and widescreen fixer) I have a Dell Inspiron 531 with the following specs: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ (2.60 ghz) 3 GB of 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM Realtec ALC888 7.1 channel integrated audio Plantronics Audio 650 USB headset GeForce 8400 256 MB |

So here's what it looks like when I join a server and it doesn't allow me to load:
![]() It'll sit like that for about 10 seconds, then send me to menu and give me a disconnect error. So anyone know what the deal is? Those stars (one is circled above) above the flags stay there the entire time, so I'm assuming the screen is frozen. |

After some more research I've got another interesting fact: I can always connect to TCombat, but basically every other server I get the above problem. And my VOIP works fine on TCombat. | |

how about this one:
maybe you can also bring down the console and see if something wierd shows up like "cannot load..." i also might suggest switching off the onboard sound in the bios or using that muvixer tool some other mentioned edit: are you sure it depends on the server and not on the map? |

I've found a bit of a fix: Restart my comp whenever I start getting connection issues, and so far I've been able to connect with no problems after that.
I've gotten in on the same map on different servers, and sometimes I'll lose connection , other times not. I didn't get any weird console messages, so I still don't know what's going on. I guess I'll be doing a lot of restarting. |

So restarting worked the other day, but no longer does. I'm running 3 gigs of ram, although I guess overheating could be the issue.
Also, I've been able to get on some servers within less than 60 seconds of being booted from another, so that leads me to believe it is a software problem, not a personal hardware problem. *Edit* Confirmed, ran for more than an hour on TCombat with no VOIP problems at all, so it's not hardware. |

here is another idea, pretty far off but:
if u run a firewall or anti-virus software or e.g. spybot try switching them off |

Hmmm....didn't even think about that. I'll give it a try.
By the way, thanks very much for the help, it has been invaluable, and I realize most people don't use their spare time to troubleshoot other people's comps. If we had karma on here you would get like +1000 from me. |
