You can actually change that? I run PR on a quad-core, don't mess around with any settings, and it runs fine. (quad 2.4ghz)

by choosing set affinity on the BF2 process I can set which CPU's the process is allowed to execute on. I just thought i heard something about dual core messing up something

Well BF2 was designed before dual-core was even a reality so you shouldn't get too much of a performance boost with both cores running over just one.

I've heard of some people having problems running more than-one-core-CPUs.

Simply, if it doesn't run well on dual then use one.

There is a method where you run bf2, drop to desktop, bring up task manager and then set to only allow BF2 to use a single core.

I did that and saw no difference though.

Then I installed xp service pack 3 beta and things got faster like a clean install, almost, for most activities except the game itself.

Still trying.......

How did you get the Beta?

I hear SP 3 is absolutely epic, finally a microsoft thing that doesn't make you buy Vista.

Lol, according to one guy who posted in the comments section of the link Mr.D posted, it apparently makes YouTube videos look clearer.... ?!?!

That's really quite funny

SP3 will basically include all the updates that've been released for XP to date, and includes some "minor" updates of its own, according to MS. However, there are a couple of articles out there like this one: http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,13...p/article.html that state there's a reasonable performance boost to be gained from the new pack (which is a little weird as according to MS, it's a bugfixing SP).

Either way, I'm waiting for the full release rather than using the Beta. I've done some public beta testing with MS, but given that I've only just got my gaming rig set up how I want it, I didn't feel like spending the time and effort for SP3 lol.
