Don't blame Vista. Vista runs flawless for me. The only application I have that has had issues with Vista is BF2. (shocker) The poor coding lays with the developers of Vista (and apparently the Al Basrah map).

Vista x64 is the best OS I have ever run.

paul, I have a very similar setup. Looks like you have some outdated video drivers or your shader cache for bf2 is using your old card's settings.

I have the same problem on several maps.

If you keep textures on High settings it'll lag like hell. It almost comes to a complete stop in the beginning of the round.

Opteron 165 @ 3Ghz
4GB RAM
8800GTX using 162.15 drivers

Vista x64 Ultimate

Al Basrah on 0.5 had this issue and now probably all maps have the same issue.

Hardware is 100% stable. Usual BF2 is 100% stable despite the map changing crash problem which is addressed by a little .exe editing (4GB memory addressing added).

Me three

I'm very much enjoying Vista x64 Ultimate (yes, of course there's some problems here and there). I've run newer games just fine for the most part (C&C3, R6:Vegas) but I was very excited to see .0609 out as I had not played PR since upgrading to Vista. Well, it seems I'm having the same issue. I set all of my graphics options on high (as I did in XP), even changed the affinity to one processor, and priority of BF2.exe to high. Even so, on Al Basrah my framerate went to crap; especially when entering areas with buildings. Just traveling over the plain open desert I was OK for the most part.

Anyways, I tabbed out and checked the Task Manager and my physical memory usage read 93%!!! So yea, I guess I'm joining the Disgruntled Vista 64 PR Player's Club.

AMD Athlon X2 4200+
Corsair 2Gig RAM
GeForce 8800 640MB
160MB x2 hard drives in RAID

Am getting the same problem :

Vista Ultimate 32bit
2GB RAM
Intel Core Duo 2.13Mhz
8800GTS 320MB

And I also get this when I try Basrah :

All the other BF2 modes work good. Am not sure what to do. Could be drivers but am not sure I have latest.

Well one thing you all COULD do is dual boot xp and vista. I use xp now, well for everything and vista is just sitting there cold waiting for when i actually need it. I couldnt care less about the so called eye candy. If I wanted that i would go for Ubuntu beryl. Now almost all older and newer games work just fine on vista without a problem. Sadly PR/BF2 is not one of them Even if it works flawlessly on your vista there is a definite performance boost on XP. So if your system is compatible and you know what you are doing ( i did it so almost every one can) dual booting is one choice. And you can remove XP from your system when you feel you dont need it anymore.

That was the original idea but it turned out easier said than done. Besides, Vista can, theoretically, operate 32bit applications. It's unfortunate that it doesn't work as well in practice.

insurgent0011, I got the same error just a few minutes ago upon loading a new map (the memory size was different though)
