BF2/PR Taking Ages To Load

For the last few days, BF2/PR seems to be taking ages and ages to load up.

When I double click the icon, it starts to load, the CD starts up etc, all normal. But then the Hard drive does the loading sound for ages until the first splash screen appears about 2 mins later.

When it has got to the splash screens everything is fine. I can connect to the account server no problem and it loads maps up the same as always. Just this initial loading delay is a bit of a problem.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

May be an obvious question but have done a complete defrag?

No I haven't. Only had the new hard drive for a few months. Would it need one so early?

Try deleting everything in your LogoCache folder.

Directory by default:
Code:
C:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents\Battlefield 2\LogoCache

I defrag mine every day, but I do a lot of changes as well so it needs it, but at least once a week should do you..(you should never leave it longer than this)
Also try deleting everything in 'My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache'
and 'My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\cache' and My Documents\Battlefield 2\cache....this will clear out all the shaders and start from scratch.

I have tried deleting the My Documents folder for BF2 and it still takes ages to initially load.

Once it has loaded once, then for example I quit out of it but leave the PC running, if I start BF2 again it loads quick like it used to.

What if anything have you done to your comp latley?
It sounds like a memory thing or PageFile to me though, what have you got your PF set at? it should be 1.5 to 2 times your physical memory.
Also have you turned of your Virus Checker, Ad aware stuff etc.

I have made no changes at all to my PC lately. It just started doing it out of the blue.

I will try a defrag soon and see if that cures it.

Thanks
Greg
