Default [0909] CTD when joining server

Hi PR community, first off...love the mod!

I've been playing since 0.4 and enjoyed the game immensely, and I've gotta say I love all the new content that's been added.

With the latest release however, I've had a bit of a problem...I can't join the servers. I've never had a problem with an install before, and I always delete the previous installation before installing a new release. The game installed just fine, loads up fine, but when I try to join a multiplayer server, it crashes to the desktop.

I have no idea what the problem is, and I searched the forum for someone else with my problem and only found a dead-end thread.

PR Bugs - Project Reality Forums

Any ideas? I tried the suggested fix by Zimmer to no avail. I would love to play this new release, hope someone has had this issue before and knows a fix!

Again, thanks for all you guys have done. Any suggestions are appreciated.

You are not alone. I have the same problem, the game starts out fine, but at the moment I double click on a server, or select a server and then clink deploy, it CTD. No message errors

If I find a solution, I will post it,

Regards

I had exactly the same problem some time before and it crashed because I had an ATI card in the computer along with a soundcard. Disabling ATI High Definition Audio drivers in the device manager solved these crashes. If you have multiple sound devices in the computer, the game will likely crash unless you disable all but the one you plan to use.

Such crashes may be also related to using digital output from an X-fi soundcard. If I select SPDIF Out as Vista playback output and start the game, the sound will mute after joining a server and the game has to be restarted (I have Daniel K's drivers, this action might result into CTD with original Creative drivers). Speakers need to be selected as an output device in Vista (doesn't matter what you select in the Creative audio control panel or Creative volume panel) - just make sure the "enable digital IO" box is checked and SPDIF should work.

In the game, please try to set the audio mixing to "software" and see if you can join a server.

please post specs

run pr in windowed mode to get an error message that you can google

note: bf2 needs to be patched with 1.41 and 1.5 (in that order)

general: make sure windows and device drivers are up-to-date

btw: the link you posted is broken

Thanks for the responses, sadly still no luck.

SPECS:

AMD Dual-core 2.8
ATI X1950XTX 512mb
3gb RAM
on board audio

Patched to 1.41 and then 1.5

Tried setting audio to 'software' and 'hardware' settings, no luck.

How do i go about doing the windowed mode option? I tried adding the line to the end of the target path and it wouldn't allow me to change it.

posted link was broken because it was moved by an admin i believe, regardless he just posted that he had the same CTD issue as mine.

Tried adding it outside of the quotes, still crashes after trying to join a server.

I can see i'm not the only one having this problem, is there gonna be some sort of hotfix released to combat this CTD? Or is the cause still unknown....?

It's just more bullshit with drivers and errors I bet.

I get the same problem, along with a multitude of problems.
