Vista PRMumble freezing screen when chatting

This is a problem that I've had for a little while now, but haven't figured out how to fix. I've got my local chat key for mumble bound to ALT, which worked fine for me. In the last couple months, however, it's started displaying troublesome behaviour, without any apparent cause (didn't alter any mumble settings, overlay is off, etc). Specifically, when I try to chat, BF2 will freeze, and will only UNfreeze once I've hit the chat key again. This doesn't happen with 100% reliability, and doesn't appear to hinge on how long I hold the button down. This behaviour has carried over to PR 0.9.

Obviously, this isn't a game breaker. I can still hear, and I can still chat so long as I hit ALT once I'm done speaking to get back in the game. If I recall correctly, it works fine when "force center" is used (to my recollection... it's been a while since I've had cause to use it). However, it's a huge pain in the ass, and makes mumble use in hairy situations a poor call. God help me if I were to pilot a chopper and talk to my passengers with it.

Does anyone have any clue what might be causing this, and what I'd need to fix it? I love using mumble, but this is a huge impediment.

i suspect the alt key to try to call a menu like when you use alt in the explorer the focus jumps to the menu - since pr has no visible menu it might still try to focus it thus deselecting the main windows content frame

i have not had any problems using the left alt key as push-to-talk however i did tick the check box in the supress collumn in the shortcuts dialog
this will have mumble intercept the alt key and stop other applications from registrating it (alt-tab might not work anymore use "CTRL+ESC" instead [this will call the startup menu])

yeah if you are in windowed mode in bf2 alt freezes the game.

I am indeed running in windowed mode. I'll give the suppression a try, and if that doesn't work I'll just rejigger my control scheme.
