Every 3 seconds or so I get a lag spike. It's not my internet, I have an average 40-80 ping, and it could be my graphics card, but unlikely. I turned all my video settings to the lowest and it still happens (this just started to happen with the new patch). I think it's either punkbuster(uninstalled then reinstalled, but i could of missed something) or the patch I got was corrupted somehow. Any help/ideas?

PC stats/memory information in particular? When this occurs on my PC it's normally due to a lack of memory and PR going into the page file which slows things down considerably. One thing to try if it's punkbuster related is using the command pb_sleep 500 (the maximum allowed) which increases the time between punkbuster checks on your HDD and can boost performance.

I have (basically) the same problem, I only noticed it on one particular map though, Yamalia. As soon as the server changes to that map, my computer's going crazy. First time it stopped responding completely and I had to reboot it, second time I actually got in to the game but every 3-5 seconds the screen freezes (sound continues normally), those freezes can last from 2-20 seconds. It just goes on and on, the freezing doesn't stop, but continuing in random intervalls. In short, I can't play on that map.
On any other map it works fine, no problems what so ever. But on Yamalia, nope. So I have to change server every time that I see that Yamalia is next in rotation. I'm running Intel Core2Duo (E6750) at 2.66GHz, a total of 2 gig RAM, the swap file is set to 4092MB. Graphics is Nvidia GeForce 8800GT, 512MB. PR is working brilliant on every map, but not Yamalia. All hell is breaking loose there. Any help appreciated, and sorry for hi-jacking the thread a little. |

I'm receiving the same problem. It can't be a memory error. I have 3gb of ram and anything in the BF2 engine cant stop that.

Ya, i'll try the command prompt for punkbuster, and I'm using 2gigs of ram, Pentium 4 @ 2.8 GHz, and an ATI radeon x1550. I'm not sure what it is, it just started happening this patch. Could be a patch bug, could be my computer, I just don't know.

ya, fixed the problem for the most part
open the command prompt in-game and type "pb_sleep 500" and after that, type "pb_writecfg" wait a few seconds, and bam, your game should clear up any punkbuster caused lag spikes. If your lag continues, then I guess this rules out punkbuster, and is probably caused by a slow or single core CPU, lack of RAM, or a video card bottleneck. cheers |
