Question Pretty colours at boot up

Here's the story...
Yesterday, when playing PR the game just froze for about 5 seconds, then unfroze for about 3 then froze again. Then, then mylaptop just turned itself off. Fearing that when I booted it up I would get the blue screen of death, I got somthing much, much worse...

...pretty colours dancing across my screen! Usually blacks, whites, pinks and greens. Then after about a minuite of these colours the screen would fade out to black and I would hear the vista jingle in the background, yet still no image.

This happenens every time I boot it up.

So I check if it was my screen: I plugged an external monitor into my laptop and switched to it using the 'function' keys. No picture appeared on the monitor.

Heres what Im using:
Acer aspire 5920G laptop
Vista home edition
8600 GS
2.0 duo
2GB RAM

Hopfully somone can help me
Thanks all.

Overheating of the graphics card would be my guess. I've seen that on a few laptops.
