Default PR 0.87 Display Problem

Ok, I have BF2 installed to version 1.41, and 1.5, and Project Reality to version 0.87.
When I start PR, I log in, everything goes well.
I choose Training, get a list of servers, deploy to one, and then:
The deployment loading screen shows up, the progress bar goes slowly to about 12%, then the screen goes black, except for the cursor which still moves (the rotating PR dog tag), the music continues. Eventually the music stops and combat noises begin (explosions, etc.). And I can't do or see anything, and have to Ctrl-Alt-Delete to get out of the black screen. I've tried changing the display settings, but it doesn't help.
Anybody have any suggestion on how to best solve this?
Thank you.

drivers are a good suggestion

clear the bf2 cache in "My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache"

to get an error msg from bf2 you can start it in windowed mode:
change your shortcut's parameters to "+fullscreen 0" ie:
Code:
"C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" +fullscreen 0
try reproducing the error and
then google the error message you get from bf2 if you do not find a solution post back here

"Hello, IT! ... Yes, have you tried turning it on and off again?"

FYI my graphics card is an ATI Radeon 9200 Series.

Thanks for the suggestions. I updated the drivers, and the error message I keep getting is "VPU Recover has reset your graphics accelerator as it was no longer responding to graphics commands".
I Googled this error and whe advice I got was to use the ATI Catalyst Control Center to reduce the AGP speed to 4x from 8x. My mother board only supports to a maxof 4x anyways, so I reduced it to 2x. No change.

I've tried following other advice I've found like cleaning the dust from the inside the computer, turning VPU Recover off and such, but I'm still suffering a crash on Project Reality, yet BF2 works just fine.
I'm puzzled.
