Default Setup requires 0.86 to be installed, but I have it?

Ok, first I download 0.87 patch sucsessfully, I open the desktop icon and it tells me to install 1.5 so I do that, sucsessfully.

I open the 0.87 icon on the desktop and alls good till no servers apeare.
I uninstall 0.87 patch with windows remover and atempt to reinstall. I get this message:

"This setup requires Project Reality 0.86 to be installed

Do you want to go to the download pages now?"

I already have 0.86... I did not uninstall it!
I open up a list of programs installed and heres what I have under Project Reality:
0.856 Core
0.856 Levels

Is there anyway to avoid a 3G download? What do I do? :S

EDIT: deleted the first message.

EDIT 2: If you run any of the PR uninstallers it uninstall every version of the PR. So if you have the old installers still on your computer you need to install them first.

If you uninstall any part of PR, it will break. This is because the patch overwrites vital parts of your game, and when you uninstall, it deletes those files. You should finish uninstalling all PR versions, then reinstall. It looks like you would go 0.856 Core + Levels, then 0.860 Patch, then 0.874 Patch (judging by what you said you have in your programs installed list).

If you don't have any old versions, and you want to avoid redownloading the full core + levels again, then do this:

Browse to <bf2 install dir>/mods/pr/readme/version
Right click -> New -> Text Document
Name it "patch.086" (without quotes)
Note, you must rename the whole file, including the extension. If you can't see the extension for known file types, then you need to enable it (a google search should pop up how to do this). Otherwise you'd be calling it "patch.086.txt", which is not the same as "patch.086" .

Once you have this file, the installer will allow you to install the 0.874 patch, which should put in the files again providing you didn't uninstall any other version (such as 0.860, or 0.856).

However, I don't recommend using this method. If you are missing the "version file", you could be missing other key files that could cause all sorts of problems with PR, and repatching may not put these files back in the right spot. But you can always try I guess, if it fails, the full 0.87 core + levels is there.

As to why there are no servers appearing, keep trying. I suspect GameSpy is having some issues with the influx of players due to BF2 v1.5, and it takes a few attempts to get the servers to show.

It's alright, I have 0.856 core and levels saved onto my desktop. I will run them, then the 0.86 patch followed by the 0.87 patch.

Thanks for your help!

(Btw, I opened the readme and there was no file/folder named version. Thanks anyway, all should be good )
