Hi Everyone, I'm new here, but not new to BF2. My friend (slippypoo in-game) turned me on to this mod, and I'm excited to play it, but I'm having problems getting it to work. In advance, I am running Windows XP Service Pack 3. I have .net framework 3.0 installed.
More specifically, I'm getting the error "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect" when I double-click Project Reality 0860. I noticed during the core installer process that the installation of the .net framework 3.5 did not finish. I attributed the PR bootup error to this failure. This error pops up every time i try to install the 3.5 framework (including during the PR install): "Microsoft .NET Framework has encountered a problem during setup. Setup did not complete correctly." It doesn't matter whether its the offline installer or not, or which .net framework 3.5 service pack it is. Same error. In the error log it says: [07/10/09,23:42:16] MSXML 6.0 Parser: [2] Error: Installation failed for component MSXML 6.0 Parser. MSI returned error code 1603 [07/10/09,23:42:19] WapUI: [2] DepCheck indicates MSXML 6.0 Parser is not installed. I read this and figured that the msxml parser was the problem. I went to Add/Remove Programs and removed MSXML 6.0, my plan was to reinstall it. However, when I try to install msxml6.msi, or msxml6_x86.msi (found on the windows website), the installer is interrupted: "the windows installer service cannot update one or more protected windows files" It does not matter which msxml 6 version i try (core/service pack 1 or 2). Same error. This has been truly frustrating over the past 2 days. I have searched google for a similar problem, but it seems this problem occurs most frequently with SQL servers and those problems were fixed simply by downgrading the msxml to something below 6.0. So this is my last resort. Has this happened to anyone else? Help would be greatly appreciated, I am dying to play this game. Can anyone tell me how to either install msxml 6.0 or show me a way to install the mod without .net framework 3.5? Many thanks in advance, skullmyst |

Looks like you got a corrupted installation of .NET on your machine, have you tried uninstalling all versions from the Add/Remove programs dialog ? If not try that first, and then reinstall .net 3.5 on a clean booted machine.
You could also try repairing your windows with the install disk ... but I think that with XP this won't help so much. |

Thanks guys. I have tried removing all .net frameworks then installing 3.5, but the same error occurred. After this happened, I installed 3.0 again. I'm really thinking that this msxml 6.0 parser is the problem. I just tried to install msxml6.msi again after setting full control of my temp folder through cacls.exe, but the same error popped up. I don't know what to do
EDIT: if it helps, i had to wipe my comp about 5 - 6 months ago due to a stupid virus. Maybe this is a contributing factor to the problem? |

I suggest trying to do a repair on your system from the XP installation disk, if you still can't do that ... then you might be looking at a clean install of XP | |

Have you attempted installing it in Safe mode?

I was going to suggest that , but I think that Safemode disables a whole bunch of stuff that the installation needs.

That is possible, are you trying the manual install or the online install?
Also sorry if you mentioned this already but did you uninstall all previous versions? |
