Thanks for your help but I fixed it now.
My router's configuration after a reset were to disconnect for a short time after every 5 minutes so I had to fix only this little option and it now works perfectly. Unfortunately I didnt check the configuration after the first two resets. My VoIP isnt working though... |

Hey,
Is there a known permanent solution for the phenomenon the OP describes? Hitting escape does prevent me from disconnecting as he suggests, but I'm rather keen on being a chopper pilot...unless I can find something besides this stop-gap, I can't really be a pilot; It'd be disastrous to have to hit ESC while transporting a squad of troops. |

The problem described by the OP is actually just a symptom which can belong to multiple different problems. Each problem ofcourse has another solution. It will be your task to find out, what exactly causes the symptom. In this thread there are a couple of root causes and solutions presented.
I admit that finding the right solution for you is a hassle, especially when having to find it in a thread of 16 pages with people stating that they have the same symptom. But the solution can most likely be found on this forum. (Maybe someone can spare some time to compile all the possible solutions to replace this sticky.) Also there are several different threads about this symptom. You might want to use the search function to get to them. So all I can really suggest to you is to try those other fixes out and see if one applies to you. There is no general purpose fix for this afaik. |

Alright. I was afraid that might be the case. Thanks for the reply, though. The most recent thing I've tried is switching to single CPU affinity for bf2.exe, as was suggested on maybe page 3 or 4...no luck there.
I take it this also means there's no specific reason the ESC key seems to restore the connection in many cases? |

I have not come across a reason why this seems to work. However, I could imagine that since 3D rendering ssems to be halted the game or system has time to catch up with outstanding processes i.e. network traffic handling. So I am relating this to either low-end hardware/bad drivers or simply bugged game code.
