Win 7 [Solved] PR won't start

I installed PR again couple days ago with the torrent files including the map pack, but when i start the splash screen just pops up there for a while and then it disappears and thats it. I have tried running as admin and in xp sp3 mode, also tried disabling desktop composition(?) I have FH2 installed and it runs perfectly(*) I have tried reinstalling PR once already but that didn't fix it.


Specs:

Win7 64bit
Asus P8Z68-V-LX
i5 2500k
Gainward GTX 570 Phantom
G.Skill 4Gb x 2 1600mhz

*Running 275.33 seems to have fixed pretty frequent crashing in bf2. Newer than that seems to start crashing.

How bout graphic settings in BF2 profiles?

Start vanilla BF2, log in to your account or make one, then quit. Now start PR

If this doesn't help, try deleting the video.con file in c:\Users\username\Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\yourprofilenumber\

DO NOT DELETE THIS FOLDER IF YOU FORGOT YOUR PASSWORDS AND CAN NOT RETRIEVE THEM.


Daniel is probably right, your resolution is set wrong in the video.conf file and as soon as the program switches from the splash screen tot he game, it crashes due to sending out the wrong video resolution.

4 ways to fix this:

1.

Go to Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles , each profile you have has a separate folder, 0001, 0002, etc.
Open global.con and see which is your default profile and make note.
Mine:

GlobalSettings.setDefaultUser "0004"

Close global.con
Open the appropriate folder.
Open Video.con
go to line #9
Mine:

VideoSettings.setResolution 1920x1080@60Hz

Adjust to your settings, idk your correct refresh rate,
to look it up, right click desktop, Select Screen resolution, Click Advanced settings.

Click the Monitor tab, and then look under Screen refresh rate,



2.
Create a shortcut for PR on your desktop. Either make a copy of your current one, or find the pr.exe file and right click->send to desktop.

Right click the new shortcut icon... add this string to the end after the pr.exe"

+restart +szx 1920 +szy 1080

Mine is:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe"+restart +szx 1920 +szy 1080

note where the quotation marks are located, they must be there.

3. Third way is to delete the Profiles folder, but don't do that if you don't know or can't retrieve your BF2 log-in password.

4. Fourth way is to create a batch file on desktop...

exit

save the batch file and use the batch file to run PR.

Thanks, starting vanilla fixed it. It just said on the first start: "Error detected and settings restored" or something like that.
