I have heard that the lagging stops if you take down the dynamic shadow setting to a minimum.
Can this be confirmed pls! I dont fly myself but I wanna help you kids out |

this would support my theory that the merlin/huey lag is just due to crappy computers

I got a bit of lag in Huey on OpArcher, but it was the 1st round flight so i consider it "swaplag"...
The longest spikelag i had in that map was when i applied to be commander: switching to the comm's control panel took me about 20/30seconds |

it might have been the server. i noticed the same thing which does not happen on a local server though. also, it will take ages till the time to battle starts to count down.

I've had pilots that requested no talking via VoIP or chat to reduce lag in the Merlin on Basrah. We hushed up and landed without a hitch.

I belive i know the reason and a way to get past chopper lag... or atleast...solves it for me. I usualy find that if I fly around the entire map once before I do any clever flying... the lag stops, fly high but not high enough that the draw distance wont load in the map. Once or twice round the map usualy does it, once thats done... go do some serious flying.
Alternativly if you run around the whole map before you jump in a helo you wont get chopper lag. Ive only really tried choppers on bashra and archer, however, they seem to be the maps with the biggest work load, and this seems to solve it. You dont experiance this lag on foot because the map has time to load in all the models or something, slowly, in a chopper/motorbike the map has to load much quicker and your basicaly putting your comp through hell trying to catch up. Perhaps, all I know is this works for me. Try ti and see if it works, alot of you may not experiance it some rounds because you havnt jumped into a chopper right away and have gone around enough of the map so you dont punish your computer. Theres definetly something thats causing it, I suspect models but something like dynamic lighting could deffinetly be the culprit. |

Well what you describing Jester is due to low RAM. I do not experience this cause my RAM is high. No lag in planes or other choppers then Merlin and Huey. Strangly enough Huey on Jabal works fine for me.

With 1bg of RAM, I experience zero Merlin lag, and I piloted the heli at the very start of the game, giving no time to load the map, like Jester pointed out. That's a good theory, though, makes sense to a layman like me.
