steps for PR freezing up computer

Maybe this will help out. I had the exact same problem you guys are talking about and this is what I did: 1.) download CCleaner and use it to clean out your registry everytime before you play.
2.) Change your virtual memory settings. Use this thread as your guid: http://www.realitymod.com/forum/help...ng-t16553.html.
3.) I also downloaded smartclose like suggested in that same thread to close down all the crap running in the back ground that you dont need.
I am telling you this because now my machine runs awsome. It is like watching tv now, there is no lag or freezes to speak of. I cant tell you enough what a difference it makes to do those things I mentioned. Hope it helps. Maybe an admin can put this info where more can see, if so many people are having the exact same problem..

Thank you very much wood, I am very gratefull that you took the time to post what you did. Im going to reinstall BF2/PR and try what you said.

Edit:Well I dont know how but I seem to have fixed BF2 and PR crashing to desktop when I started them, all I did was restart my computer and then run smartclose and then I tried to run BF2 and it worked! well im going to see if PR will work now and not Freeze everything up.

did you run CCleaner and change the virtual settings? If so how full was your registry or(how many errors did it delete?) Glad to see you can play again, let me know if your computer runs better now.

It's definitely a bug. This didn't happen earlier now it's a constant problem. Cleaning registry etc. didn't solve anything. I was talking about this with other members in squad an other day and everyone there was experiencing this - all the time.

Might be something related graphics or sounds, 'couse it's usually happening when they are at heavy load - but that doesn't really say much.

Well black, Fubar is right. My shit started freezing up again lastnight. I went for three or four days with no problems and all of the sudden BOOM FROZE!!!! Maybe this will help the RDEV guys though. I have started to notice that the freezes tend to happen when a server is running buggy. The warning signs are squad bugs, random restarts, and usually heavy lag then the server crashes. I dont think its our machines guys. I think the problem lies in the relationship between PR and servers!! I have been paying close attention to when the freezes happen and alot of the time the server ends up crashing too. Has your PC ever froze then when you go back in the whole server is restarted? I am convinced its not me now, especially now that I know you all are having the same trouble. Glad to see Im not alone. I will still play PR though, I love this damn mod too much. I hope the Rdev guys are on top of this. I wish they would atleast let us know they have read our posts.

Yea, Im going to have to stop playing PR until this issue is fixed
Whats pissing me off is I dont even know if the DEVS know of this problem... I know there really busy trying to finish 0.7 but I wouldnt mind waiting an extra week for it if it meant they fixed this problem.

As of right now PR is unplayable for me.

Well if .6 freezes all the time maybe .7 will just be a black screen. I cant believe the rdev guys never replied to our posts.

Yeah I wish it would just crash to desktop, instead of killing my computer.
