Somethings wrong with Albasrah

Hey guys Somethings wrong with Albasrah. Its really really choppy. I done all the optimizing I could think of, even drop the quality to low and the level studders and jumps. I'm not the only one experiencing it.

2 gig's cant handle it? too bad its a sweet map, but when the majority of the players can play, kinda sucks.

I will try it at work (faster computer)

It's kinda bothersome to turn down your setting because other maps work very well and settings can't be changed on fly. It takes minutes to change your settings and get back to the server. After Al Basrah you propably want to change settings back to where they were.

I'm with the OP, this map is overly laggy for what it is.

i turned down my settings and still, HARD lagging and swaping, couldn't play, couldn't have fun. you should NEVER demand a config this powerful from the community when in the past you've demanded a lot less powerful config. "The map demands 2gb ram". Ok, so nice playing, because i can't upgrade my pc, therefore, can't enjoy PR and all of its content
i have a 9600pro, 512ram and a Serial ATA HD. i always loaded every single map of PR very well. now i can't play on some of them. this excludes me from the servers and from the fun
these hardcore loading maps should be tweaked to be as smooth as Ghost Train or Al Fallujah, per example. these 2 are as smoothy as Muttrah, which loads on 20 seconds on my pc. Basrah took me 8 minutes to load offgame and some more 6 to actually start playing ingame -> NOT FUN

It's been over a year since BF2 released, and a while since the last PRM release also, now our mapmakers are trying to get the most of the BF2 engine. So, yes, requirements have gone up a little bit, sorry to say it but unfortunately that is how PC gaming rolls.

It is hard to make new, great maps without going a little crazy with statics and buildings when you make an urban setting. Would any of you buy that this was the toned down version of Basrah? When it was first released for beta it was unplayable for 95% of testers I'd say, and so everyone ran it on low, I got about 5mins of lag at the beginning of the map, took forever to load, the whole bit.

But, I got 2 more gigs of RAM (this just coincided with PR .40 release) and everything runs perfectly. You can get another gig for ~$100 and then two for ~$230, I know not everyone can do this, but even outside of PR, if you can, it's worth it.

I run this map on a fairly old computer. I have a 2.4g p4 on an intel pbzlk975 mobo with 2 gigs of hyperx ddr ram using a 9800 pro and have no problem running this map.

I run:

AMD 64 Athlon 4000+ Processor
2GB of Ram
6800GS 512mb GFX Card

Everything on high but AA on 2x and 1280x960 resolution and get 70-80 fps.

My system is not that good and the map runs fine
