Secondly I would rather pilots who are willing to learn to play the game, did so off the "legitimate servers" as much as possible. Training mode did have many problems, but 90% of the people on those servers were learning to fly, or flying for a bit of fun to build their experience! Do you remember learning to fly in PR? I often help new players learn to fly on the RT server when the server dies - those assets don't last long and the timers mean that the "training" is over in 5 minutes. Alot of people seem to want a place to learn to fly, so hopefully I will be allowed to put out a downloadable flight training map on a custom passworded server - it wont be hard to set it up so that tardish behaviour is avoided, and meaningful flight training can take place.

Some people are missing the point here.
Training mode is just what it says on the tin, training. Who in their right mind wants to play a match using the training map..... What Babylon is saying is.... In [RIP] we have 3 Platoons, Infantry / Armour and Air. The Academy that he runs within [RIP] allows players to better their game in any asset or kit they desire. Our training map was only ever used on our locked match server to allow Instructors to teach new or existing players. Having to change server configs can be done but surely allowing clans with server licence's to run a training map is no different from changing the map to Qwai river or Ramiel. Every player has a choice on which server to play, nobody forces them to join a particular server. With the new version 0.9 alot of changes have been made. The interest in Project Reallity has had a fresh interest again as it does on any new release. [RIP] alone has had 5 new applications to join this week, most saying they want to join because of our teamwork and that we play regular scrims. I just think that the way we run the PR section of [RIP] has been helped by the training map. I have seen people getting kicked for asset destruction. Training mode would surely stop alot of this. You are always gonna get your 'wumwuts' or 'spermcubes' no matter what map you run. Is it possible for the training map to be a seperate download for players with server licences??? ( just a thought !) Im not flaming anyone for their opinions on this topic as this is what forums are for. Im just saying that the training map/mode was extremely helpfull for new and existing players alike. |

See, this is what happens when the devs try to fix something that wasn't broken in the first place. There wasn't ANY problems with the way people were playing on the training servers and it Definitely wasn't effecting the normal PR servers but the devs for some reason though it was even though it never did.
SO they FIXED it. BYE completely taking out the training, NOT even making it single player only or anything they just ripped the code right out of the game. And then they said to themselves; IT SURE WILL BE FUN watching all those noobs RUIN normal servers by destroying ALL the assets |

So the answer appears simple.....
Not a member of a clan - use Co-op or offline server to practice... Licensed clans - have a locked training server mode Simples..... Everybody is happy.... |

There were plenty of empty servers where 2-5 people could have met up for coordinated training. I see the point of the devs to get rid of a gamemode that attracts people who want to rage and noob, but I can not fathom why they would not at least offer an offline/local version of the maps so people can learn to handle flying outside a game.

I wouldn't mind the training maps only being allowed on password servers since that would take out all the unorganized noobery that would happen. It allows communities and clans to have training and some pubbers could ask around in their communities when the next training session would be so they could be included.

see i learnt how to fly in PR all the way back in v0.7 but i didnt really play the mod much between 0.75 and 0.8 and in 0.85 i was using the training servers solidly to bring myself up to speed with the gameplay mechanics again. I agree that the training serevrs offered up plenty of rape particularly on Kashan with he attack helos raping inf or the bombers raping vehicle and OpFor aa raping helo and jet, but you do learn a lot sometimes on training servers and i noticed when i fired up 0.9 for the first time on an empty co-op the chinook felt ridiculously different from the blackhawks and hueys and on offline co-op the bots refuse to do much stuff so yo really can't practice much extraction unless you land bang in the middle of the bots which often places you under heavy fire from OpFor. So even though training was flawed with plenty of undesirables I still think it was a useful asset to have if you wanted to train (on an unpopulated training server) or even just wind down on one of the more popular servers.... so just saying training isnt all that bad!
