I do miss this game mode for a number of reasons. Jigsaw you have made some great points for it being removed however there is a better side to the training servers.
I would go into training servers to play with huey's because my computer cant handle them on live servers & I refuse to be the fail pilot that kills squads and wastes assets in a real game. While on these servers I would always run into one or two people that I could help out. I enjoyed spending a few hours of each week showing new players the tricks I had learned and helping them increase their skills. Teamwork and cooperation is what we are all about isn't it ? I do see your point about the trolls under the training servers, however wouldn't the option for locked training servers or just training servers that were well looked after by admins change this ? |

Should just have separate server licenses for training servers. You must agree to have one or more admins on station at all times, or something like that.

I can totally agree with what you are saying about public training servers but my point here is that clan's like RIP use the training mode all the time to "train" on with a private locked server and this has now been taken away from us. This mode is vital to planning scrims and improving players skills. Again it's down to choice and once again the wonderful people that make this game are not listening to the players that play it. The license thing is a good idea - have a training mode but only allow it on locked password protected servers..... problem solved - no more kerks...
Thankfully our server admin is looking into having a special config that we can launch that will put spawn times to zero so that we can play with certain assets but certain parts of the config can't be changed so easily such as the amount of players that are required in order to obtain specialist kits etc. (unless I am incorrect and I hope so). This is still a pain as with Kashan training you had all the vehicles you could every want on 1 map, rather than having to change maps just to try out different vehicles. As far as I am aware the vast majority of PR players are clan related and are use to working as a complete unit. They are also mature sensible people who don't run around in a clown suit TK'ing people just to put vids on YouTube. |

I miss the training mode, because when i went in there i went to fly to sharpen up my skills because i have not had the courage to fly a helicopter in a busy server. i have had compliments but im not so sure . Training mode helped me to become a good pilot from the enemy aa and i tried a local server and it was plain and boring so i wet on coop in .9 , turns out its not as much fun as the last version's coop.

Kashan training in public servers often turned into a fast-paced, vanilla-style battle. Which was apparently not intended, although that raises the question of why OPFOR we're given any assets.
I believe the 'fighting-instead-of-training-issue' could of been resolved by further nerfing the OPFOR team, simply just removing the AA vehicles would of made a huge difference. Then no one would really want to go OPFOR and fight. A map designed specifically for training would help as well, but not entirely necessary. COOP isn't the solution to all Training mode's problems. It can be just as much of a vanilla battle. Featuring single crewed vehicles and BF2-handling jets. As for current solutions, you can in fact easily edit the spawntimes and assets on maps for offline training purposes. You just have to go to the level's folder open the server.zip file and edit the GamePlayObjects.con file with notepad (located under gamemodes/coop for example). Just remember to back up the server.zip file so you can revert the changes when you want to play online. |

I feel that all of jigsaws points are complete and utter bullsh!t.
I could not fly the choppers until I joined a training server and spent hours learning to fly them. (they fly nothing like real life so it was like learning to fly all over again.) What am I supposed to do now to learn to fly the Chinooks join a normal server and crash them repeatedly? |

The most populated training server was busy creating good pilots, true, but it also encouraged noobing and then trained noobs were released unto the unsuspecting public.
I feel the training severs should be handled like any other server, if there are not admins taking care of the server the DEVs should ask the admins to retire the server, just like they do with a game server. At the very least there should be an offline version of the training maps. Jets, after a bit of practice I am getting landing done at a reasonable success rate. And I just started, I can keep that skill up as long as there are maps where jets spawn at round start, but helicopters, right now I am crashing soo bad without fast respawn it would be a bore to train. |

Jigsaw I think you're just looking at it from your point of view as an experienced player.

So PRT training sessions didn't use training maps, and that's some kind of prof that training maps were useless? I would'nt expect PRT to be using them. The training servers were there for "noobs to noob around on" - and I'd much rather they did it there, than on a full server. | |
