- talk to friendly SLs - talk to other SM sometimes What you really mean to say is this: - Inform other squads of enemies, quickly and efficiently without having to type or while on the move. - Get ranges from other SL's. - Communicate with other SL's to coordinate an attack or flanking maneuver. - Get information from other squads about where you are getting shot from. - Ask for patches, ammo, get healed, etc. from other squads. - You feel as if you are more of a team, rather than being surrounded by unknown blues. - You actually pay attention to who the other players are, rather than just your own squad. The possibilities are endless when used right. And you say that Mumble has spam, so does VOIP, but the benefits of Mumble out weigh the setbacks. | |

When killerfox had a grenade launcher and was crouched behind a low wall with me, I was able to tell him the range to the enemy for his launcher, even though I was not his squadleader. Yeah I could have typed it, but it was easier to tell him about his hits and what adjustments to make rather than have to type that.
Good team and mumble can win a round. |

As a squad leader, being able to play with communication to most other squad leaders (most of the time, all) or non is a no brainier. Mumble ftw, i dont understand why people dislike it, not being able to communicate with other players or able to communicate? hmm...

Communication is good but for some reason mumble brings out the spammer in people.
Maybe because they know everybody has to hear what they are saying... Also how often are squads next to each other that you can actually talk to blue guys? Not that often imo, most of the time this happens when it is planned by SLs which doesn't happen often. (Maybe more often now with mumble but I didnt experience it) But also on RT server I didnt see that happen often... People even use mumble in their own squad which is really not good. giving away position and all. I remember a round on Muttrah in 0.87 though. I took out a squad alone because I knew exactly where they moved because they kept talking. Anyway I haven't made much good experience with mumble yet. Maybe my opinion will change with more exp but so far I dont like it much - at least when both teams are in the same channel. I mean you could say it is more realisitc when you can hear the enemy too, okay, but since you are not forced to use mumble the ones who dont use it have an advantage. Quote:

Yes people use mumbles instead of squad voip, tell em to shut up. yes people spam, but not often, yes squad members dont use it much but its worth the seconds to start it and SLs need it. overall, its winrar.

I have a theory about why Mumble gets more spam than VOIP. I think people forget etiquette when they are using Mumble because it doesn't necessarily show who is talking like VOIP. When you use VOIP, if you are spamming, it shows your name and it is easier to kick/ban someone who is spamming from the squad or game, so people show a little more restraint. The other thing is people may not realize that you can hear them, as it is positional, maybe they think they think that you are too far away to hear them. But honestly, not being able to communicate with members of other squads is like being blind to them and not being able to see them at all. You feel less isolated and alone when you can communicate and you become more efficient and powerful as a team when using Mumble.

There's nothing like moving your squad up to a position, linking up with a blue guy in the area, asking him what's happening and where any hostiles are, then getting a direct and detailed answer from him with no artificial blocks in the way.
