Antennas has a limit of how much you can minimize them. It is a satellite dish in there, it needs space to rotate around, space for stabilizing and rotating engines.
In addition to the above, it might be placed on the front in the interest of proper weight balance, also moving it further to the back would make a bigger dead zone created by the tail for the dish and possibly decreasing rudder effectiveness due to shadow zone behind that lump.

The 7.62 MINI-MI will probly be ALOT lighter than the GPMG, so it would probly be for Astan troops.

Holy crap, that thing is HUGE!

Good to see BAE getting more into UAV stuff, as whenever they enter an arms division, they always seem to make the best equipment. At least from my perspective their stuff always seems the best, I dont usually hike into this part of the forum so I may get completely shot down! :P

Well I think it is would be see same story as American M60.They a lot lighter, but light barrel(Thats MAG) and biggest vibration that 5.56 bullet gonna make it a less reliable, thats MAG IMO.Not sure thats western armies will say "bye bye" for FN MAG.

I don't get it, how is it comparable to the M60. It's a GPMG, the 7.62 MINIMI is a uprated version of the 5.56 version. I'm not sure how vibrations from a larger round is going to hurt its reliability.
On the other hand it is safe to say that the FN MAG isn't going to be leaving us anytime soon, it's a well rounded, proven GPMG and it says that the MoD only purchased 176 with plans to buy 250 more..

Y'all do know that the Minimi was originally intended to be a 7.62x51mm weapon, right? That why its so damn huge for a 5.56x45mm LMG. The calibre was changed because at the time NATO was switching over to the 5.56 from the 7.62 so a "mini machine gun" designed for squad level use probably wasn't going to get bought if it was in the calibre that most of its customers were in the process of relegating to specialised roles.

The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

Many thanks to [R-DEV]Adriaan for the sig!

The 75th Ranger Regiment uses both the Mk-48 (a 7.62mm Minimi) and the M240, their weapons/MG squads switching them out based on METT. Maybe the UK will the same thing. Or maybe the maneuver support section (team?) of a rifle platoon will get these to replace of the GPMG in the light role while the fire support units of companies or battalions will retain the GPMGs for their sustained fire role?
