That can already be done. What's being worked on is even more impressive....

New Artillery Cannon for Namer

Except the armor protection is pretty lackluster... and it can't carry 8 infantry dismounts.

Something that can take a 120mm sabot to the front without having catastrophic results is what would be nice.

Its in the IDF doctrine, tanks are expendable..the crew isn't - its a design philosophy that affects everything hence why the Merkava engine is in front to provide protection to the crew.

I don't think its impressive considering Namer in its essence is a turretless Merkava 4
That said its good to see the army finally using its brain and realizing that a 30mm cannon beats the 50cal/FN Mag thats on it.

If only everyone thought like that... Its smart on the IDF side of things to do it like that.

Israel is a small country of 7 million people and roughly 400,000 combat soldiers when fully mobilized..not allot of people considering the hostile Arab countries have 60 times more the population....you can see why every step is taken to guard our soldier's life by design and tactics as we are always outnumbered and can't "out produce" the Arabs.

Well certain steps could be taken to uh... change that...

Anyhow, crew protection and armament should be the two major goals of an armored vehicle designed to give fire support.
